Fuel filler flap won't open!

Featured Replies

Hello,

I got a new stereo fitted yesterday and now my filler flap won't open.  There's no sound when I press the button above the stereo and nothing happens.  I'm some distance from the chap who fitted the stereo and frankly he's been a nightmare to deal with, so if it's likely to be an easy fix I'd rather do it myself than take it back to him.

Also, I've read about there being a way to open the flap manually, does it entail removing all the boot trim on the right?  Also, what's the best way of pulling the fuel filler switch out?

Cheers!

Sounds like the wiring to the switch has been accidentally disconnected.

You can open the flap manually: open the right hand cubby hole in the boot using the two quarter turn catches. Reach inside and pull back on the rod that is at the forward end of the filler.

To get a picture of what you must do, download the Octavia Tour Manual from the pinned section above. The diagram is on page 157, bottom right.

Great!  Thanks for that, Mike :)  Good to know I've got an alternative in the short term, just glad I was only trying to get the flap open so I could check what my tyre pressures needed to be.  Got a long drive this weekend so I'm glad I didn't find out with half a litre left in the tank or something...

So do you think I'd be able to reconnect the wiring to the back of the switch?  What's the best way of popping the switch out?

Cheers!

Where are you located mate. Im in milton keynes and will happily sort it out for you if you want me to take a look

Hey Paul,

I'm in Walthamstow, bit far :)  I really appreciate the offer though!  Do you think it's just a case of the plug having been disconnected from the back of the switch on the dash?

check the fuses too, might just be blown.

to get the switch out of the dash pop the radio surround off, then undo the couple of torx screws that hold in the top row of switches

I thnk they are T20 size Torx

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, popped the button out and checked the wiring, all still connected. Locked the car and realised that the central locking didn't work, it just locked the boot...

Drove back to my parents', thinking I'd have to leave the car there (as I'd inadvertently left the car unlocked all night and day in London already).

Thought a fuse might've blown so stopped at halfords, popped the fuse cover off and one of the fuses was half out!

Popped it back in and everything works again. VERY relieved :)

Sounds like the bloke who fitted your stereo was a bit of a tool.

I think you might be right!  But yeah, phew is right.  So good to have my car all sorted and the new stereo is great :)
