Estate torneau cover....anyone's looking a bit stretched yet?

Featured Replies

Found after several months and a fair amount of opening/closing that my cover is no longer entirely flush when closed like it was when new, has started to dip quite a bit around where the material joins the lug bar on the left hand side....been notably worse since it fell out whilst driving the other day. I guess it's stretched but pretty shabby for an 8 month old car. The cover and mechanism works fine though.

Cars looked after and far from abused either.

Anyone noticing the same on theirs?

No problems with mine after 11 months, still as good as new

Same here. 11 months later

8 months yesterday.

I open and close it a lot depending on whether the dogs are being carted round etc. etc.

All good from here.

It's just gone a bit funny on the left had side...still covers the boot just like the tension in the left hand side of the mechanism isn't quite as strong now as the right.

It's due a service soon and has a irregular starting issue/loud fuel pump so just something to add to the list...though whether they'll cover that under warranty is yet to be seen!

Hmmm Pipsyp, just what have you been doing in the boot ?

I think the tension spring in the left hand side of the unit is no longer functioning properly, hence why it goes a bit baggy on the left when in place (the right mechanism pulling harder than the left).

It needs a service shortly so will ask about it, hopefully Skoda will agree to replace it.

Mine has completely stopped retracting and is now rolled up in the boot.

It wasn't in for its first service last week and the dealer has ordered a replacement. He'd ordered another one two weeks prior so there may well be a dodgy batch.

Great - I've just opted for an Estate again - my MkII Estate hit 180k at 8 years and the retracting cover was still fine!

Mine is perfect too, one year old and just over 9000 miles, opened and closed many times. I must say compared to my Dads Volvo V60 equivalent cover, the Octavia version is so much easier to open and close, simpler also than my 2005 Ford Mondeo Estate was as well.
