Any 1.6tdi owners want up to 175bhp?

Featured Replies

Ooh could make a rapid become rapid

I'd like to see a RR graph from 1,000 rpm to see how it spools on the smaller capacity engine if I was thinking about it.

Considering the turbo is from an engine with a 20% higher cubic capaciity.

If it spools roughtly like stock it'd be a very interesting upgrade.

I wonder what kind of supporting tweaks would be needed, such as intake, exhaust etc...  if any.

From what they said, you obviously need the remap and beyond that a larger oil feed line which they can supply for £40, beyond that it's up to you but intake and exhaust mods not needed. but they advise doing them at the same time if you were so everything can be set up together.

This would make a great sleeper, the right car with a 1,6 being up there with Fiesta ST's and the like.

Agreed it'll be brisk, but a 175bhp diesel isn't that quick these days for a modified car.

The Fabia mk1 VRS was making that figure with just a remap 10 years ago.

It would surprise a few people though.

Exactly especially when a 1.0 Fiesta can pull 125bhp

True, but your not going to get anywhere near the same torque figures from the 1.0 Fiesta, not just about bhp ;)

Hmm. Yeah, 175bhp is a nice amount. Its not a lot though.

Is it worth losing drivability and low down torque for something that isnt even that powerful?

Theres no wonder the mk1 vrs seems to be holding it value so well

No! Its about driveability for me! I do enough miles to realise power and torque are best when usable as a daily!

Up there with a Fiesta ST?

I think BossFox will know better

As above

Exactly!

Let's be honest, most of the day to day stuff is at low revs. Its only when you get on a decent road, or need to overtake that the higher revs come into play.

Low down torque is king, for me atleast.

I'm normally in 1.7 Diesels which unless IM in a rush stay below about 3k which is where I need the torque!

The ST isn't actually that quick.  It's just amazing in the corners.

In all the comparisons I've seen it's been beaten by it's peers in a straight line and then outperformed them on a timed lap due to it's talented chassis and set up.

Mind you, swap the turbo on that and it's makeing 270bhp...

I'd guess a Fabia 1.6 CR running this turbo would be about as quick in a straight line as a stock ST.  0-62mph in around 7 seconds give or take a little.

vRS alternative without the oil burning!

Isn't that were the mapping comes in? A decent mapper will be able to get the set up close to your desired spec.

Yes but bigger turbo means more lag so less useable power about town!

But it is not too bad for a 1.6 diesel.

If it's not laggy, it's good.

Yeah. 175bhp isnt alot nowadays. *glumly looks outside window at his 80bhp 1.4 ... :D

Now you see my craving for something quicker as a trackday car :P

Mapping will only help so much.

A big turbo takes a lot of spooling up.

More power then the Mondeo is currently running, 155 BHP, not sure what the standard Torque figures are though
