Ebay Jokers

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just thought would pass a little bit of randomness from the wonders of selling on E bay.

As some of you might know I put the Mondeo up for sale onto the usual websites etc. (briskoda, E bay etc.

Anyway I placed the car onto the E bay for 3200, obviously open to offers, had some interest from a buyer offered me 2000, I declined politely, I then got another email at 2200 I again politely declined, today had another email offering 2400... I again politely declined.

Final email today, and I quote..."Good luck trying to get 3000 then no chance

Anyone else had an experience with E bay and people trying their luck and then getting a random email back?

I sometimes work in a off road bike shop, we get this sort of thing all the time.

Usually something like, "Hi m8 £1000 cash on this?" on something advertised at say £1700.

We politely decline of course and often get "Thats well too much though" or "you'll never get that for it m8" ext.

Fairly standard i think.

Ah fair enough, first time I have really sold a car over Ebay, just made me laugh a little bit though!

Common place, people will try it on

I had a bike on there for sale at £1800 I was offered £800 and followed by £1000.

I then sold the bike for £1650 and the bloke who offered me £1000 and £800 went absolutely mental at me because I'd sold it without letting him know lol!

It's full of arseholes.

Took me several attempts to sell the BMW on eBay. I was getting silly offers but I held on and in the end got what I wanted. They try it on though!

Fair enough sending a cheeky offer, you never know. Iv had people say yes to an offer when i thought id get told where to go. Happy days. You dont ask, you dont get.

It is just that though, an offer. Theres no need to get annoyed when it gets declined. That doesnt get you anywhere does it.

A common one iv had when selling on there 'iv seen a similar one for less money'. Well, go and buy that one then...

What you've got to remember is that everyone has an idea of what something is worth to them. To sell something you need to have a seller and a buyer agree on what the item in question is worth. All this guy was doing was letting you know what it was worth to him - his problem was that it was worth more to you.....

very good point Topcat, I didn't think I overpriced the car, after looking at similar on autotrader, ebay etc. I guess it was the email I received back, it was almost like a childish response

Last time I sold a car on ebay, Bird's old Audi A3 that we only want £600 for, I got a call that went like this:

Me: Hello.

Ebay man : Hello, I'm interested in your Audi

Me: Ok, what would you like to know?

Ebay man: Would you take £500 for it?

Me: No.

Ebay man: Well I've just looked at one up the road from you and he only wants £500.

Me: Right...

Ebay man: It's done less miles and only has a few stone chips.

Me: Well, that's the car for you then.

Ebay man: Oh.

Me: Anything else I can help you with?

Ebay man: No, bye.

Me: Cheerio.

I held out for what I wanted and eventually got an offer of £600. Then the agro really started but I think I convinced the buyer that backing out of the deal would not end well for him as he embarked on the 6 hour train journey to come and collect it :D Also, it was apparently my fault that he broke it two weeks later :dull:

Basically, useful as it can be, ebay is pain.

Email him back...

"Good luck getting a Mondeo as good as mine for £2,400, no chance."

Unfortunately with all these wheeler dealer and up your attic programmes everyone thinks that the seller will automatically accept what the buyer offers, forgetting that what's on TV is not real life......

I just ignore the dreamers like those!

They always say the first offer is the best offer you'll get, no chance!

True but I was quite happy to accept a reasonable offer, I also would rather people came and viewed the car before making an offer over ebay

Why have you locked the for sale thread on here? people viewing may think its now sold.

I locked it as potentially I will be keeping it for the time being, I have had all the work done, and the car that I actually would want to replace it with is quite hard to find in the model I want, so I thought I would wait, Ill keep the ebay ad open till it runs out,

Hope that makes some kind of sense,  :|

Actually have just unlocked it on second thoughts...

Its a lot of car for £3k & had a lot of work done to it,surprised if it doesnt sell.

Got so sick of people thinking they were buying new goods then trying to quote the sale of goods act at me that I've stopped.

Like the phone I advertised as having a scratch on the screen (no returns) bloke demands a return and refund because there is a scratch on the screen.

Sold a watch WR50m, women goes swimming and it leaks. Think she bought it from Argos and tried to return to me under 'warranty'.

Someone bought a used jumper off SWMBO advertised as used and complained it looked used (£2 she paid for it).

Ended up writing massive sarcastic ads so I couldn't get comeback from anything  up to and including asteroid impacts and nuclear war.

The way Ebay works right now it's easy to buy things form sellers and then get your money back and usually keep the stuff. Ebay always sides with buyers.

Haven't sold anything on Ebay for a couple of years now because of that.

No just on Ebay but my pet hate is punters ringing you up and asking,  "how much will you take for it?"   when they haven't even seen the car :swear:

My mum runs a small mail order business selling stuff on ebay and offers a 'no quibble money back guarantee'. In fact if she gets a complaint she often lets them keep the goods for free AND gives them an immediate full refund of their money. On one occasion she even let a customer keep the original goods, and sent them a free replacement, and gave them a full refund too!! Try getting that sort of customer service from a high street shop. Despite all that she still manages to get a few negative feedbacks from total @rseholes!

That seems to be the main thing that has happened, I have had no "serious" Interest hence for the moment I will keep the car.

Perhaps I have over estimated the price but who knows, I do tend to doubt myself around things like this!

I no longer sell items on fleebay because its just not worth the hassle. Had plenty of wasted time with people turning up to collect cars they'd bid on only bringing three quarters of the bid price or trying to negotiate the winning bid down. Waste of time.

I had a set of tyres for sale on preloved, basically i ordered a bigger profile than usual and found that they caught slightly at the rear. Garage couldnt take back because they had already been fitted. So have 2 that have done about 5metre and 2 that have done bout 20mile.

They had cost me 280 so put them on preloved for 250, one guy offered 120, then same guy offered 140, then 180 all of which i politely declined, then he offered 120 again lol. Left it on for couple months then he emailed again offering 100.

I understand trying to get a bargain but when the tyres in particular are usually 85 each and I got them on discount anyway i think i was asking a fair price.

When he offered £120 I would've emailed back and asked why he only wanted two tyres.
