Tyres tyres tyres

Featured Replies

Right posted here deliberately as I'm not interested in how these work on a yeti or citi go

Right mone is tight I've spent loads on the car and I need new tyres

I've borrowed down my choices to

Naknangs ns2 @ £113 pair

Kenda kr20 @ £80 pair

Haida Hd921 @ £90 pair

All 225/40/18 not fitted

In all cases the reviews are generally good with the odd seemingly boy racer saying he smashed up his turbo innit coz they ad no grip bruv

My preference is the naknangs as I know a bit about them

Anyone tried any of the above or can recommend anything of a VERY similar price

I preferred Nankang as-1s over ns2s

Noisey , but not bad tbh

Ns2s wete not nice when wet :(

£50 a corner ur budget is it bud

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

Very cool but defo not 50 a corner mr petey :)

Effective tho tehe

I even have footage to proove it :D

I currently get falken ze914s fitted in 225/40/18 ( if u ask nicely )

Never penny pinch when it comes to tyres is my advice

Primewell 910 sports or aoteli p600 have a look at those if budgets are what your after

Had some Kendas on a BMW which tried to kick the back out in the rain which wasn't ideal considering it was my mums car!

It's not so much penny pinching more a case of physically not having any to pinch ATM

I was chatting to a bloke in an Evo 9 with naknangs who rated them 4wd obviously

I've had "good tyres" which were pants and I know some of these brands are subsidiaries of big companies now. I've got falken now which are ok but no better than the khumos I had

From that list I would say Nankangs.

HOWEVER! Before you pull the pin on budget tyres, do yourself a favour, and have a ring round some local tyre places.....you might be surprised.

I have a deal with one of my local tyre shops that's been ongoing now for the 4 years I have owned my Octy.

Apparently tyre shops are, and have been since the recession, struggling to shift many branded / mainstream tyres of late. Well, so they tell me. They say that 99% of customers roll in, and just ask for the cheapest brand of tyres available. Price is the driving factor, and they don't care about anything else.

Because of that, the tyre shops are happy to do a great deal on branded stuff. Hence, I have been getting a set of four Michelin Pilot Sport 3's for mine, for £440 fitted and balanced. A bargain, I am sure you'll agree?

Get on the phone / go visiting your local tyre shops. Ask fr similar deals on a set of four. I think you might be surprised what you can get?

The only budget ive heard get a rate is the achillies atr bud

40 a piece

Falkens. Falkens. Falkens again. Best vfm out there - definite and noticeable step up from budget ditch finders, not that noticeably worse than premium stuff and very well priced.

I'd wait and find the extra. Hate to say it but as above, I'd cut corners on many things but never tyres.

My falkens do really well tbh

Hated at first, but now i really like them

That said they are on the wrong width rims, so the fact they do well i should give them extra brownie poibts

Only after 2 so would be limited on what deals I can get. Will have a look though

Anyone tried these before Goodyear Efficient Grip? They've a good rating on grip and roll resistance as well as noise.... Not hijacking your thread honestly... *whistles innocently* just picking other peoples brains whilst discussing tyres.

Got some on the Clio! I don't drive fast enough to know what they are really like ;) ;)

Aww hell that means the car will spend most of it's life off road, broken down and smashed up?!!! Wait it does the former already... *runs to the hills in a panic*  ;)

 the tyres are the only good thing on it from what I've seen! They're grippy! Can't tell about road noise as it is loud anyway!

Seriously have a browse at what i suggested

The ns2 are ****e mate.

Noisy as hell and not much grip after about 50% wear. Takes a while to wear tho.

Had them on my fabia vrs and had to get rid in the end.

Pete i agree the ultrac sessantas are awesome. Got 2 on the back of my m5 and omg they grip. Getting 2 on front this week.

Couldnt you wait a little and save another few quid for some hankooks or vdresteins sessantas or the vortis?

I have hankooks v12 evo on my fabia now and love them and they quite quiet.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

Just had full set fitted then drove to London and back, very pleased with them

Have a look on tyrereveiws.co.uk

Bought mine from tyreleader.co.uk approx £75 each

Goodride tyres, £50 each fitted. Done 25k on the fronts and have about 2.5mm left. Seem Fine, not too loud, and grip seems fine - not had them lock up in the wet or spin out- There again I am road driving not track driving. Depends what you want from a tyre.

I was in the market last month for 4 tyres on my tdi and found the above review site very useful. I had at that time two Goodyear on the back and they were so noisy. Price/performance ratio is what I looked at. All the reviews gave the Goodyear's as low milage and noisy so looked at others. I chose Falken ZIEX ZE914 EcoRun. Excellent price through Black Circle and must be the quietest tyre I have had for some years. Grip is good wet and dry and the only negative is slightly more wind-up on corners (angle between the direction of travel and direction wheel is pointing), but then you could say that is what gives you more feel! The EcoRun variant looked better for my purposes than the standard ZE914.

I've found a pair of Hankook Ventura for £140 which although it's a stretch financially at the mo seems worth it will be plus fitting but that won't be too much
