Retro fitting multi function wheel

Featured Replies

Right, ive had a read up and i'm still confused.

What would fit in my 2008 pre facelift octavia vrs cr170? I have maxidot and columbus.

Ive found a mk6 golf gtd wheel and airbag, i will just get a skoda badge if it can be fitted.

Thanks

Phil

A mk6 steering would be the same as a FL Octavia. I think there are issues and you may need to change the steering controller, or it may not work properly even with a different controller. You will also probably need to change the slip ring behind the steering wheel.

Get a scan with VCDS to see what steering controller you have. Or remove the steering column trim and have a physical look.

With that info you can go from there to see what you need.

As in the trim around the handle for the rake adjustment? I dont mind buying all the moduals etc as long as it works.

Cheers

I'm not sure anyone has fitted a newer wheel to a pre FL and had full functionality with the new wheel, although it is possible to get most functions to work with the right controller. Its worth speaking to Eddie-NL if he doesn't see this. And as KB said, a VCDS scan is definitely going to help.

I messaged him last week with no reply.

Ill try and get a scan then.

As long as most stuff works, like volum and skip etc thats fine. Maxidot stuff can stay on stalk if needed.

May be a red herring this but with my wheel change (2010 facelift model) I couldn't have both the wheel buttons and the stalk working. I went from standard no button vRS wheel (as came in manual cars) to one with buttons (as came with DSG cars).

Yer im happy to only have one. Even if its the stalk still. Mainly want the wheel to do the audi side.

audio side should work fine

Eddie-NL what else is needed for the mk6 GTD wheel to fit then? Will i need an airbag loom?

loom

CH controller

I'll have a CH controller and loom for sale next week when it comes off my car...

  • Author

Do you have any looms for sale?

I've bought myself a Mk6 GTD wheel and airbag now..

I have a loom.

Replied to your PM mate

Check the airbag to see if one is included

Hmmm that sounds fun. I'll leave it as VW then haha

  • 1 year later...

Would the mk5 steering wheel be a good option to go for as I was thinking of changing mine for that

Mate you sound like you are a guru as well, lol I've got a manual box so the paddles would be no good for me unfortunately didn't think of the seat brand will go and have a look on flea bay now. Will it still need coding to the car?

Cool thanks I will look into it

Assuming you don't have Maxidot, then it is highly likely you will have a mid line, rather than high line, steering controller as Mike suggests, so thus would need to be replaced.
