DSGproblems

Featured Replies

Some time ago i put on here about our box under load giving a thumping sound. Took it to main dealer and they are changing the oil to start with.It has now done 58000 miles and was last done at 36000 in 2009.Done some sums from my log which tells me everything i paid out for since 2006, there were issues that warranty paid for ,one was new dsg  flywheel?.The sums added upto £790 per year, divide that by the miles and it will be cheaper by bus!!. Have been driving since 1954 and had many vehicles, but have never had these problems like the Skoda. I can remember a clutch being fitted on one and a gearbox on a Transit plus Cortina had a oil cooler fitted and that never was the same but my wife carried on with it and she sold it after thirteen years!.I was as you call a Ford and Nissan man as these gave good service but thought i would have a change. For mpg, towing and solo 10/10, comfort 7/10,Paint work 3/10,Service cost , looks 9/10 , Wonder what the car is worth today 55 plate Elegance.?.

Not sure what you mean?   are you saying you have paid out on average £790 a year on repairs?

Outside of routine maintenance, the only thing I've had to fix was a failed brake calliper and a wishbone bush.

In 3 years and 30,000 miles, I'm quite happy with that (On a car that is nearly 9 years old, I will add!)

I should have said thats including services ,Also in the nine years got through nine tyres. Its serviced at all the right times by main dealer.

It would appear that in 5 years you have only driven the car for 22,000 miles.  That will considerably increase the cost per mile.

My wife's 1.2T Clio covers 4,500 miles/annum and costs 55p/mile and my Octavia vRS covers 12,000 miles/annum and costs 31p/mile.  That is including ALL costs including depreciation, lost interest on the money tied up in the car, all repairs, tyre wear, servicing, insurance, road tax, etc.

Your £790 for 4,400 miles = 18p/mile, but it is unclear what that includes.  Certainly cheaper than taking the bus.

Hi, the figure shown is for repairs and normal service, no MOT/ insurance/tax in it.

£790 for repairs and normal servicing per year is high.  My 2005 Civic which I bought in 2006 and owned until 2013 (a total of 6-1/2 years and 78K miles) cost around  £180/year to service and TOTAL cost of repairs in that time was just over £300 ( ONE repair to replace CVJs and covers).

My Octavia in 15 months and 15K miles has already had the rear wiper motor assembly replaced twice under warranty.  I suspect that out of warranty those two repairs would have exceeded the Civic's record in 5 x that time and mileage.
