Huge android fan but my friend showed me his iPhone 6 today. Very very nice. Screen is incredible. Wouldn't make me change back but it's certainly getting closer!!

Christ you must have big pockets. The blooming massive. More of an iPad micro than an iphone

I picked one up on Saturday from Glasgow. Really nice phone but ios8 doesn't half have some bugs.

Fits in jeans pockets without a problem but you soon get used to using the one hand mode to get to the top of the screen or using both hands.

Everything I read is the display is pretty much the same as every other handset. The S5 and G3 apparently have better pixel density than retina?

The iPhone 6 has a similar pixel density to the 5S, and the 6 Plus isn't that much higher - certainly less than the android flagships. I have a midrange android (Huawei Ascend P7) which is almost identical in size to the 6, but has a full HD 5" screen (same as the 5.5" 6 Plus) rather than a 4.7", so I'd expect the flagships to be quite a bit better still. I think now it's more about the system you want to buy into, rather than the hardware being much better on one side or the other. I got an email today from a friend who's just bought a 6, and he loves it; I somehow think he wouldn't be convinced by my cheap Chinese phone even if the specs were better all round!

NOTHING wrong with Chinese phones like Huawei, keeps the competition on it's toes.

The PPI on the iPhone 5s is 326 at 1136x640

The PPI on the iPhone 6 is  326 at 1334x750

The PPI on the iPhone 6 Plus is 401 1920x1080

So the iPhone 6 Plus has a HIGHER resolution screen than the other phones.

I got a 6 on friday but I'm not convinced by it at all and am going back to a 5S - It's just a far more convenient size to use one handed. The 6 is too large and slippery and will be on the floor within weeks.

Absolutely. After all if it wasn't for andriod and the jailbreakers where would Apple copy all its new features.

I think my new iphone 6 is massive - the 6 plus is even bigger!

Nothing particularly spectacular about it - but I was due an upgrade and the mobile phone market has started to stagnate for a few years now. Just bigger/faster/thinner/better camera is all that comes around!

Is it the same size as the S5, Nexus 5 etc? You get used to it quite easily wouldn't go any bigger for a phone than my Nexus 5 though.

If it wasn't for the original GSM iPhone in 2007, you would not have your Andriod phone today as the first Andriod phone was on T-Mobile in 2008!!!!!!.........so you could argue that Android phones copied Apples iPhone :D

6 is 4.7" screen, 6+ is 5.5" and nexus is 5" iirc.

I can see what the Dr is saying for a phone both are really too big. But I don't actually use my phone as a phone, it's more of a mini tablet for me. If I do use it as a phone I use a bluetooth headset just like I did with my iPhone 5.

Uh... my Galaxy s4 has 441ppi @ 1920x1080 screen.

Haven't had an apple phone since the 3gs and I don't plan to get another as I personally prefer the flexibility and customisation available on the android platform.

Nope, it's noticably larger than the 5S which is just the perfect size for me.

I think I'd have been more likely to stick with a 6+ than the 6.

Once you've gone past the size of being comfortable to use one handed then you may as well go the whole hog and get a monster.

Android was around before the iPhone on various devices before 2007. It only hit mainstream with the G1.

As for which came first, Windows mobile/ce mobiles were around and rocking the same features as the iPhone years before. Contrary to belief, Apple didn't invent the smart phone - they simply came up with a more user friendly interface coupled to a capacitive screen which was only seen in high end smartphones until that point in time. ;)

Apple rarely invent a new product type, but they are damn good at making the first really good one. Pre-iphone smart phones tended to be dire.

To correct you, Android was NOT available on a phone until October 2008...............a whole THIRTEEN months AFTER the launch of the original iPhone.   ;)

Ahem!!!!!

My first smartphone was the Sony Ericsson P800 and my brother and I downloaded apps for it too, and that was back in 2004 and used a Symbian platform..  ;)

Thats a worry of mine. I love my 5s being small, fits nice in my hand and is easy to chuck in any pocket without being cumbersome.

meh, who cares which came first; Android devices outsell Apple iOS, Mac OS and Windows devices combined. So shove that in yer pipe n smoke it :D

They outsell iOS because it gets dumped on every ****ty bargain bin smartphone as well as the decent ones.

It's not like sales volume is a guarantee of quality either.

true, but the fact remains :D

I wonder what would happen if Apple allowed other manufacturers to use their OS'?

I've got a 6 and really like it, I've got big hands so I don't struggle with it. Only issue is one of the volume buttons is responding correctly, I'm going to Apple store on Sunday and expecting a replacement.

Interestingly Mr Schmid and Mr Jobs were on the boards of each others phone projects ;)
