Just ordered iPhone 6Plus

Featured Replies

if you remove the bezel you'll not be able to hold it without accidental screen presses as your fingers could wrap around and touch the display, especially if you have big hands.

Sorry should probably change to reduce the size of it rather than remove. There are other phones with a much smaller bezel that seem to be fine.

  • The iPhone 6 has a similar pixel density to the 5S, and the 6 Plus isn't that much higher - certainly less than the android flagships. I have a midrange android (Huawei Ascend P7) which is almost iden

I thought long and hard and decided to replace my 5 with a 6 plus. Should be delivered today. As i get older I struggle to read the 5. You can make things a little bigger, but the proportions are wrong.

I decided to stay in the apple camp as I already use a Mac for my business and it just works well together. I have wired and bluetooth headsets to use with it, and I'm waiting for the new Sound Magic E10S to arrive. Great sound for not much £.

The phone is massive, but I have big hands. My main worry is dropping it when I'm out on site taking photos, so it's going in a case, for starters a apple leather case I picked up on eBay and a power support screen protector.

I'll probably pick up an Otterbox when they are available. Not sure which one yet.

So, has your 6 Plus arrived yet Rockhopper?????

Yep. Nice and big. I can't believe how I coped with the 5 for so long

Everything arrived so it is all nice and protected. I'm in contract with EE. I looked at Giff Gaff, but you aren't allowed to tether, so ended up staying with EE.

The Apple black leather case is really nice (so it ought to be!)

I can only justify this as it is a business expense which I can offset against my tax bill.

The large keyboard is great and I'm getting used to the predictive keyboard as well in iOS8.

It is just great for me with my tired eyes. I can (and will cope with the size, but it is weird putting the phone up to your ear to make a call.

Been a little busy today with work, but managed to get everything across from my '5' okay. Mist important are the texts. Need them for work.

First impression is good.

Apple will not switch to USB, it cannot carry half of what the lightning connector does. Over the apple connector you get analogue audio, digital audio, digital data, charging, analogue video, digital video. Quiet a large chunk of this is not possible over USB, and things like Audis AMI and SKoda MDI will not be able to have full control of the apple device. If Apple switch to USB then virtually every single Apple compatible dock will become useless overnight because you cannot pass analogue audio over USB. Newer docks use Digital, but the budget ones rely on the D to A converter in the apple product.

There's nothing stopping them doing that with a micro-USB connector - other companies have been able to do all of that (and more) using a micro-USB connector by customising the port so that it can still take a micro-USB cable for data and power but also take different cables for other functionality and much of the functionality you claim isn't possible over USB most certainly is as it's a very general protocol for that very reason.  Apple as always prefer their own proprietary solutions rather than adapt their products to meet standards as most other companies do.

Nobody has mentioned Palm. They started the whole thing off with the Pilot.

I had a few Handspring phones and Treo phone, which were probably my all time favourites. The flawed 650 being my pick.

Yes, I had the original PalmPilot and later, a Palm IIIx. Good devices in their time.

I can't remember but was stuff like the original Nokia Communicator and the Psion's before or after palm. I was forst on the old Philips "dumb phones" that took the full sized sim like a creditcard.

The problem is micro-usb is a horrible connector that's really vulnerable to being broken and a pain in the ar53 to boot.  Lighting is actually far better, just unfortunately proprietary and more annoyingly only usb2.

The biggest difference for me going from the 5 to the 6+ is not actually the screen, although the 5 seems stupidly small now but the battery.  I've just come back from a trip to london (edinburgh->london->edinburgh today) and even though I was using passbook, video on the plane, google maps round london, browsing the web in the airport etc I'm still on 60% battery where as my 5 would have given up hours ago.

I agree with the 6+ battery. It is miles better. I'm on 34% at midnight after some fairly heavy use all day, browsing, tethering my Mac, email, what's app tapatalk maps and loads of other stuff.

My 5 would not have coped without being topped up.

Used today for quite a few calls and a bit of browsing. Bit of music playback using BT and using BT headset for most calls. Sitting at 65% still. Impressed. Knowing what the 5 would be like after this amount of use.

You will like Mac.

Thanks Rockhopper, still waiting for a communiqué from the O2 store at Churchill Square in Brighton to say it's in and ready for collection.

My current iPhone 5 is now unlocked, and kitten keeps tying it in her handbags as she's going to be the new owner when I've got my 6 Plus.   :p

Had my 6 plus a fortnight now and IMO its better than my old 5 (for me), the extra battery life is really useful as well as the larger screen (may use it with VCDS  :D  ) BUT it is huge, some things now need two hands to do comfortably.

My girlfriend received her iPhone 6 on Wednesday and its already faulty. On the first day she unplugged it with 100% battery at 6am. She went to work and placed the phone in her locker and 3 hours later she went to get it out and the battery was dead. I said she probably didn't charge it but she was certain she did. Then today I plugged her phone in to charge and went back to it an hour later and it hadn't charged at all despite the icon showing it was charging so guessing a faulty battery. In the last hour the wifi/bluetooth chip decided to go kaput. The wifi setting is greyed out (I had this on an iPhone 4s previously) and the bluetooth no longer works either. Just tried restarting the phone now as it crashed (frozen screen and unresponsive) and now it's stuck at the apple logo. Absolute disaster of a phone. Faulty battery and a faulty wifi/bluetooth chip and now a problem with even starting up.

I've had every single iPhone and a self-confessed Apple geek but never have I seen such a bad quality product. VERY lucky the phone is less than 7 days old as now it means EE can send a new one out next day rather than booking a slot at the genius bar (which at the moment is a 5 day wait) and being stuck with a faulty phone all week.

My iPhone 6 plus arrives later this week and praying I have better luck!

I had a problem with mine today, but it was down to operator error.

I did the London 2 Brighton Land Rover run. I camped out last night (had to put away the tent with ice in it-yes it was cold  )

I charged the phone up Friday night. I didn't last night and decided to charge it up on the way down.

Only thing was I put the head unit on standby, but when you restart car it stays off. No power to charge the phone. Didn't notice until I got down there. (Chatting on CB on way down). Forgot to charge my phone on the way home. Now it is on 18% after 2 days.

One thing I have noticed is that using my iPhone 5 charger it is quite slow to charge the phone, but the battery is much bigger.

Having my normal 6 for two weeks now.

Handier than the plus (that would be too big for my use. Despite my eyes getting worse @ over 50) but with a battery life not much better than my 5s.

Satisfied with the phone, the software is slowly getting better....

Screen is just that much bigger that I can read most of it without my reading glasses.

Bit of a result with EE....As its a business handset and they guarantee a next day replacement and they have no Gold 64GB iPhone 6's in stock they have upgraded it to a 128GB free of charge which arrives tomorrow! Very happy now.

Won't apple just exchange it??

I have the 6 Plus, and it works flawlessly and I hope your next one does too.

If they have any.

I have an issue with my camera. It takes all the photos I ask of it, but, not all of them show up in photos.

When I plug it into my Mac they appear in Aperture. I have spent some time with Applecare and they have said they will replace it, so I'm off to Covent Garden on Monday.

Battery wise you will not be disappointed. I have used it pretty heavily today from 8am and it is now 0:15 the following day and I have 22% left. Very impressed.
