Just ordered iPhone 6Plus

My Huawei P7 is thinner than the 6 (only 6.5mm) but hardly bends at all - though I wasn't going to try quite as hard as in those videos! Mine stays in a leather case in either a shirt or cargo pocket - front or back trouser pocket just seems to be asking for trouble.

  • The iPhone 6 has a similar pixel density to the 5S, and the 6 Plus isn't that much higher - certainly less than the android flagships. I have a midrange android (Huawei Ascend P7) which is almost iden

Heard something the other day about the cost....that you can get a return flight, hotel for two nights AND an IPhone 6 in New York cheaper than what you can buy just the phone in Ireland!!!...Would love to know how Apple work out the price for individual countries!!!!

K:)

That's not true at all.

The $199 price advertised on Apple's US website is the subsidised handset cost when you take out a new two year contract. It's $649 without the subsidy, plus whatever sales tax applies in that state. That's roughly £400 plus up to 12% tax on top.
The price advertised on Apple's UK website is the unsubsidised handset cost for a SIM Free phone including VAT - £539.

The price advertised on Apple's Ireland website is the unsubsidised handset cost for a SIM Free phone - 699 Euros which is about £546

There is a difference, but you won't get to the US and back for it.

Science! Science he says! Should've had some sort of torque meter on it.

I'm no Apple fan but that looked like a fair amount of pressure on it. More than I would expect a delicate electronic device covered in glass to cope with.

Are some people expecting this thing to be 4mm thick and yet indestructable to force along it's long axis. Do they think it's made of unobtainum or something?

If you can't look after your stuff don't buy expensive stuff.

I've got a cheap WinPhon made of glass and polycarbonate, feels pretty tough but I wouldn't sit down with it in my back pocket.

Yeah - not really science. More like brute force and ignorance!

People have to have reasonable expectations - there is a point where lightness and strength cross over. You can have light or strong not both.

Having said that, my Galaxy S2 and S4 both survived life in my front pocket without bending (or reverted back to original after removal).

Why is everyone so obsessed with iphones?

it's just a phone at the end of the day, like many other makes out there. Some things are better, some not.

If it was a totally new world invention I could understand it. There must be more to life than raving over a phone.

Got a galaxy S4 at the moment, pee'd off with the awful battery life on it, so I'm looking for a different phone, so I'm thinking about the Xperia Z3 instead.

I would choose an iPhone 6S, however until Apple can pull it's corporate fingers out of its backside & ears and start listening to people then I'm not buying one.

I want a phone with excellent photographic & video capabilities, plus full Bluetooth capabilities too so that I can swap files, pictures & music/audio/ringtones amongst my mates, Apple don't allow this & the keep changing the connectors too, plus the memory you have that comes with the phone is it, you can't expand it!

Well I'm sorry but an 8Mp camera is simply not going to cut it anymore, the S4 is 13Mp and produces stunning shots & video, it's just the battery life is so poor.

The Z3 Xperia is 20Mp, it can have a memory card added too & it has a FM radio to boot, it makes it a compelling purchase!

So unless Apple up their game, allow full Bluetooth file transfers & upgrade the camera, I'm not going to have one, and when you consider that other handsets can beat it hands down for those features, then it's a no contest for me in that I will go Android every time.

They hardly keep changing the connectors all the time.

The Apple original dock connector came in with the iPod in 2003 and wasn't superceded until 2012, and was still in use on the iPod classic until a few weeks ago.

There's no reason to think that the lightning connector won't have a similar lifespan.

Ahh - but you forgot to factor in the type of people who tend to buy iPhones - I know I'm generalizing and shouldn;t but...   many are the type of people who don't 'think' and maybe have a slight lack of common sense.  :wonder:

NB - apologies to all iPhone powners and future owners who do not fall into either of the above categories - the comment was somewhat tongue in cheek and purely made on the basis of my own observations...   :D

Get yourself a higher capacity battery. anker do one for the s4 which is about 1/3 bigger. Most anker batteries are under £20 on Amazon

But who wants bl00dy great lump out the back of it? I bought a Pdair case which wasn't cheap and I'm not putting that *anker battery on it as it won't that or any other case.

It is sometimes called the "Jesus Phone".

I would have thought Apples shenanigans with connectors is about to be over. Thought the EU had put out a mandate that every phone had to use the MicroUSB format?

It would be one of the few actually useful things to come from Brussels

Picture quality is about the quality of the optics and elements within the camera itself, not how many MP a camera has got.

You may find that the 8MP camera on the new iPhones is better quality than the 13MP camera on the S4 or the 20MP camera on the Z3.

Really? Try telling that to the owners of blackberry playbooks. Micro usb is bl**dy aweful.

For all the fact that apple "shenanigans" with the lightning cable have meant weve had one cable change in god knows how many years at least its not the complete mess of a connector.

When i used to work as a technician i lost count of the number of devices with broken ports because people had tried to insert the cable the wrong way round.

They're not physically bigger, just bigger capacity ;)

Times have changed from the old days of extended batteries ;)

It's that why you get a microUSB to lightning converter in the EU iphones.

Personally I'd rather they stayed with the 30pin or went to USB and sure as heck won't be touching one while this continues.

Apple will not switch to USB, it cannot carry half of what the lightning connector does. Over the apple connector you get analogue audio, digital audio, digital data, charging, analogue video, digital video. Quiet a large chunk of this is not possible over USB, and things like Audis AMI and SKoda MDI will not be able to have full control of the apple device. If Apple switch to USB then virtually every single Apple compatible dock will become useless overnight because you cannot pass analogue audio over USB. Newer docks use Digital, but the budget ones rely on the D to A converter in the apple product.

They hardly keep changing the connectors all the time.

The Apple original dock connector came in with the iPod in 2003 and wasn't superceded until 2012, and was still in use on the iPod classic until a few weeks ago.

IIRC correctly from an article in PC Pro, the original dock connector outlived its design brief, in that they couldn't add any more features to it. The Lightning dock is more versatile in that it reconfigures itself depending on what you want to do with it. And it goes in either way up, so even better and idiot proof.

The 6 series phones are just too big for me. My last phone was a Galaxy S3 and tbh that was too big for me. When I replaced it I got a Xperia Z1 compact but didn't get on with it, so I've pinched the wife's old iPhone 4S. I was afraid of breaking it, so I bought a case to put it in; now what was a sleek slim phone now feels bulky so I might chuck the case.

I gave my six another day's use at the weekend and it still feels to large so it's been handed off to someone else and I've gone back to using the 5S which is "just right".

Some of the phones these days remind me of the Dom Joly Sketch

It wasn't that long ago the fashion was for smaller and that got the mickey taken as well

They actually worked out years ago that the only thing stopping the miniaturisation of phones was the ability to dial required a keypad of a certain size otherwise they would have gone a lot smaller

See if apple removed the bezel they could probably look at keeping the size around the same as the 5 with the larger screen. Or offer even larger screens.

if you remove the bezel you'll not be able to hold it without accidental screen presses as your fingers could wrap around and touch the display, especially if you have big hands.
