Range 0 MPH - How long left

Featured Replies

Cos that might waste, ooh, at least 11p?

I've run mine down to 0 miles range 4 or 5 times. When I've filled up the most I've ever managed to put in is just over 55L. Having the 140 4x4 I think I'm right in saying it has a 50L tank., so just over a gallon left.

60L

I've come too the conclusion that 60 is the useable total.

I understand the interest in knowing roughly how much further you can travel with fuel gauge showing empty BUT,

I just hope you are not in the outside lane of a motorway when you run out.

Fords mean zero when they say it.

No they don't. I managed 75 miles on "0 miles" in my last S-max.

And when I refilled it turned out there were still 3 litres left because that's how much less than the full tank I managed to squeeze in.

Shell on the M4 is currently selling diesel at 144.9 per litre.

Morrisons in Reading is currently selling diesel at 129.9 per litre.

10 litres bought on the M4 is going to be a bit more than 11p wasted.... Try £1.50.

And anyway, it's a bit of a principle. Service stations are guilty of profiteering - taking advantage of a lack of competition and a necessity for people to fill up as an opportunity to ramp up their prices.

So I vote with my wheels and refuse to spend my hard earned with them. Even if this does lead to the occasional bit of range anxiety - which as I have proved many times, is pretty much unfounded.

Hehe.

{ I'm back. 2800 miles umfb (please don't ask)  }

127.9 in ASDA. MD showing range of 10 miles: filled up with 54.3 litres.

PB

What's the most anyone has managed to put in then?

Mine is 56.11 litres

More interesting is what is the biggest range ever seen after brimming the tank?

I have seen 840m estimated range when refilling as much as I could get in, after a particularly frugal drive in my greenline with an average of over 70mpg showing on the maxidot after a long run. (I understand the range is calculated from the last 50 miles average fuel consumption?)

Remember that the 4wd models have different fuel tanks to the 2wd models, when comparing filling volumes :)

When I was last under the car doing my Haldex oil change, I looked at the tanks, looked like there were two separate tanks either side of the propshaft.

When the Range says 0MPH and the needles on the bottom red line, what mimimum range would one typically have,

I assumed this was going to be a quiz

In Octy 2 1.9 2005

Most I managed back in 2011 is 58.73 litres. Others 58.68, 58.07, 57.83, 57.77 so it's possible

This surely proves its not exactly a 55 litre tank.

I've done that, about 35 years ago, in a 1948 Armstrong Siddeley.  You had to manually select reserve when it ran out and that gave you another gallon.  I think I only dropped about 5mph before the engine picked up again.  You just had to remember to turn the reserve switch back when you filled up, or you would have no reserve!

^^^^^^^  come and live in france, derv 98p/l petrol about £1.10/l equiv here and no road tax :p  :notme:

^^^^. or~78p/L for 'derv' here.
