Rear Washer Pipe Leak

Featured Replies

In a previous post I was asking advice about rear wiper motors on my wife's Octy 1 hatch. Lots of sound advice - thank you. The update is that I bought motor on ebay for £71 inc delivery (Valeo) and fitted it this afternoon. It works fine and fitting was easy but no water is coming through. It did not when the old motor was attached either. The water passage in the new motor is clear but I noticed that although no water was coming out of the nozzle, the front reservoir went down. Heart sank! The fracture / disconnection seems to be at the rear. With the tailgate up, water appeared in the slight well on the left of the boot (looking at it), under the CD player. Nice green soapy water also appeared on the drive from the rear of the wheel arch ( boot drain?).

Where is the break likely to be? Is it another common fault and they go in the same place?

Ironic since washer water killed the wiper motor! Goodness knows when as we have only had the car a few weeks.

Under the CD player is the usual culprit.

Pull the carpet off and under where the speaker is or should be depending on model theres a collection of wires and the pipe comes apart there usually. It may also of ruined some connections

Brilliant chaps! I'll give it a go in the morning.

And make sure your washer water is up to strength in the winter so it does not freeze and so pop off or split the pipe at the connector.

Update.

The leak was indeed caused by one of the pipes at the join behind the near side rear speaker. Many thanks. That saved me ages! Refitted it and strapped it so hopefully it won't happen again.

That got water to the wiper motor but not up the wiper arm. After a lot of checking and faffing realised that the tiny chamber behind the nozzles was clogged solid. Managed in the end to blow it, poke it and wash it clean and all is well.

Now the excitement turns getting the plastic cover refitted over the inside of the hatch. Clearly the top spring fixings go on first and then the plastic tabs push in and lock but does anyone have any tricks to align the thing for the first part? Can't see a thing when aligning the spring fixings to the lips they fit on.

Best way to put it on is sit inside the boot and have someone hold the bootlid at a sort of 3/4 shut but still open.. If that makes sense

Thanks Brown Barge, that worked perfectly as one can line up tight to the glass and everything it ready for a medium sized cloudy to push the tabs into the springs. Earlier in the day I was barking up the wrong tree as the spring clips had stayed on the plastic and I was trying to fit them to the metal. Of course the clips should be removed and fitted to the metal first and the the nice accomodating tab allows some wriggle room.

Job done! Even though the failed motor revealed two other problems, it was a nice job to do and vastly quicker thanks to this forum!! Many thank all.
