Headlight low to high beam noise

Featured Replies

I've noticed recently (yesterday) that when flashing the Yeti's headlights (as a warning to oncoming motorists of sheep in the road around a tight bend, rather than my general Mr Angry 'I-hate-everybody-your'e-all ******s flashing!) that there was a distinct 'shuttering' sound from the front end.  The noise was  heard when I switched generally from high to low beam and vice versa too.  I don't remember hearing this sound before.  I'm wondering if some work that I've recently had done on the Yeti which entailed replacing the a/c condenser might be associated with this.  That is, the mechanics may have inadvertently 'done something'.  Any thoughts on this much appreciated.

Faulty relay?

Does sound like the relay is a bit loud. Might carry on working forever like that or might be on its way to failing. It's not exactly going to put the car iff the road when/if it does fail so I would suggest ignoring it and dealing with it if it does fail.

Cheers

If you have bi xenons, then it is indead a shuttering noise as the shutter on the lamp moves to enable high beam, perfectly normal.

We need to know whether you have HID or normal lights.

If I'm reading Oopnorth's avatar subtitle correctly, he has an Elegance spec Yeti, which should have HID lights.

True, in that case it is probably the HID shields doing their thing

You are indeed reading it correctly and thank you for all of your helpful replies.  It must therefore be perfectly normal and my lug holes have just become hyper sensitive, and/or I've developed a Yeti fault paranoia now it's out of manufacture's warranty, perhaps.
