Keys

Featured Replies

Hey all, just a quick question. My dad just bought a nearly new Fabia and after the deal was done the sales person gave him one key and said that they only come with one key. Is this true or false. I've never known a car to only come with one key only!

Also if there are two keys, does anyone know if you can and how to deactivate the second key?!

Thanks in advance!

They come with 2 keys. I don't know of any car that comes with 1 key either.

Unfortunately this is where my usefulness ends.

You should get 2 keys, not sure how you would go about deactivating a missing key though.

you would need to delete the id of the missing key

where are you based?

new car or second hand?

My dad is based in Northampton. Can a main dealer do it or can you do it via vag com?

The car is second hand on but 6 months old. Was bought from main dealer, previous owner was a sales person from the garage.

Also just a thought going forward. Are both keys the same? Or one a standard key and the other a remote?

They should have two flip remote keys, the salesman/stealsman is talking poo!

Go back and spit your dummy out and stamp your feet :) will get sorted

Salesman is chatting crap. I sell skoda and they should come with 2 keys

Yup. As i others have said. 2 keys. My 2013 came with 2.

If its 6 months old though, the previous owner could of lost one?

Spoke to the sales manager, and he has ordered a second key for us. Sorted it out without hardly any fuss!

So does anyone know how to deactivate the missing key? I'm going to ring Skoda anyway to find out if they can do this, and if they can, will get the garage that supplied the car to sort this out for us.

Cheers all

When the new key is programmed, all keys are erased and reset from scratch so the old key will be gone.

So theres a scary moment inbetween, when no keys work?

A computer crash at that stage sounds devastating!

I don;t think that's right, otherwise you would need to take all keys in when you replace one key which you don't have to.  Its probably the same as BMW's where the key is stored in the ECU and can be added or removed, usually this is a high level lock, so would need dealer software so i doubt it's vagcom.  But again i don;t know the VW system enough anymore.

either way the buyer should be pestering seller for this as he definitely needs a new key and of course for piece of mind will need the old one removed.

That is the information I got from SkodaUk. So for peace of mind, it will be a trip to the dealer when collecting the keys so they can do that, there and then.

yes that's how it works! you can't just delete individual keys. If you need a second key sorting I can help! have a look at my sig at bottom ;)
