Water dropping off boot lid into boot/parcel shelf?

Featured Replies

So when it rains or the car is wet the water beads on the back window and boot and when i open it all the water finds its way into the back of the car? design fault or am i doing something wrong...

I knew, even before I clicked into the thread, that you had posted in the wrong section.

Its a 'feature' of Octavia hatchbacks that has been carried right from the MK I through to the MK III.

You're doing something wrong. You have too much polish on the car. If the water soaks in to the grime, it's less likely to run in to the boot.

HTH :D

It's a "design feature", particularly on the vRS. I've never owned one, but I'm told that you can "fill" the depression between the plastic and the window glass with clear mastic to reduce the issue.

Well documented problem with Octy 2 & still to a lesser extent the Octy 3.

There are some suggestions in the forums as to how to reduce it, one was clear plastic door protectors slid on the hatch edges which diverts water. I just opened the hatch more slowly to let the water drain before it flooded into the boot. You could wipe the excess water away with your hand before opening the hatch - a bit messy though.

As kalpat says, opening the hatch slowly does lessen the problem.  I keep an old chamois leather in a bag in the boot to mop up any that gets in.

Having the factory boot liner helps with the added benefit of reducing road noise a bit!

From my experience, if you open it slowly after heavy rain then it doesn't leak into the boot. I have to be careful else my precious golf clubs would get wet  :D

Opening the boot slowly helps.

Rain-X or similar on the rear window & proper waxing of the painted area means that most of the water "falls" off before opening the boot.  Pain in the proverbial.

I did the open boot slowly thing too otherwise it's shower in the boot time. Even my new Rapid has this problem too [emoji19]
