"Chipping" my RS - Advice please.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I want to chip my 2002 rs wrc to get a bit more power if possible.

However since the car is under warranty I doubt that the Skoda dealer would be too pleased about this and it would lead to all sorts of headache with them. :finger:

So I was wondering is it possible to get the car chipped and then have a switch so you can switch between the original program and the upgraded one. Quite simply is it possible to chip the car without them finding out? ;)

If so then who would be good to do this. I imagine I'd have to send them the ECU from the car as I live in Dubai. Or is there just a replaceable chip inside the ECU? Is it an expensive thing to do and is it worthwhile.

Thanks...

if you look on the jabba sport web site u maybe able to find out what you need. im getting mine done and it still under warrenty. i believe that it unditectable unless it goes on the rolling road. but im not 100% sure. hope that helps

Warranty, only for a few more weeks though?

Or is it the 12 month one on purchase your concerend about?

Typically they don't cover much anyway.

It depends on your dealer, my local chaps don't have a huge problem with my modified car, then again in 60k I've only had 2 claims, coil packs and clutch master switch/mech.

A few options may exist near you, look in the partners area.

Most of the options are about the same when all said and done, so I guess it's who ever can sort you out the quickest.

What number are you out of interest?

I've had my vrs jabbed and still take my octavia back to the skoda garage for warranty work and they dont have any problems, ive also had a full blueflame exhaust fitted so it is noticble that it has been tuned and I still have 1 year left on my warranty.

The Skoda Chief Mechanic told me that a chip wouldnt affect the warranty unless they had to read that part of the ecu which even when reading the fault codes they dont see that the chip has been modified.

My dealer was cool with my Jabba chip, too, they did several warranty jobs during the 2 years of warranty I had left on my car.

Also, I've done 50k Miles on a Jabba custom map (229.8 Bhp ;)), and I get 31mpg!!!

Ok guys, I think I'll see what the dealer has to say.

As to the waranty having only a few weeks left to go, no. I've got three years to go because I only just bought the car "new". It sat in the showroom since 10/01 and no one wanted it. The car is no. 51/100 and cost me just over 9K pounds on the road. Good deal eh?

I'll chek Jabba out

My local dealer noticed the remap, car was well out of warranty though so diddnt really matter.

The Darth Vader sound effects from the DV is usually a give away though. Jabba will usually advise yo ufit a Bailey dump valve when yiu have the remap. This is what will give the game away.

However, if you fit an Audi TT DV it is much quieter and you may get away with it.

45000 Miles on a Jabba map including 3 cannonball runs. Absolutely no problems !!

I've since spoken to the sales guy who sold me the car and he says that if it's re-mapped they won't be able to tell. He even Suggested a few people in Dubai that could do it! He also said that I can change whatever parts I like, e.g exhaust but then that part woldn't be covered by the warranty. Obviously.

There's a company called Digitec (I think they are from Europe?) who say they can do it. I might go along and investigate soon.

Can you get a short shift kit for these cars? If so where?

Try fleabay, there is a seller; 800bhp, he sells them, top bloke, i bought my CAI kit off him.Tell him i sent you and see if he'll sort you out.

Hi, you can get a short shifter from Dieselgeek in the US. Online creditcard transaction. I ordered mine air to Bahrain - $40 US for fedex economy airpost - 10 days time (should get mine by the 28th)

As regards the "Chipping/ tuning box decision" in the Middle East - better get either a digital tuning box (cheaper, transferrable, removable, nontraceable) or a AMD one-click -reversable whenever the need arises (dealer repair, ? (really)hot weather). Send me a private msg if I can help out.
