I have no idea which model it is, but two of them were being driven to destuction around the Nurburgring on Monday. They can shift, whatever they are.

Thats the impression it gave when it left the Garage

New C class.

Autocar has a few spy shots with same disguise cladding.

New Merc, beat the fuel shortages in our mad max tribute car.

The disguise makes it looks like something the A-Team built

I thought it might be that - it's the closest to being replaced.

Wonder if it's the AMG version.

That explains it, nice one Stuart...:)

Going off the wheel size (ie not big), I wouldn't be totally surprised if the C Class you saw were running the new'ish 3.0 diesel (320). Extremely fast in standard guise (6.5 to 60) and I'm expecting AMG will be playing to up the ante against the 535d.

We're not that far off 5 second'ish 0-60 production diesels now.

Yeah....but it takes 3 turbos in a diesel car to hit that figure, as previously shown by Mercedes.

Might be a silly question but why would they have a tow bar on a test car

And whats the problem with that

BRING ON THE TRI-TURBO VRS!!!!!!

To test the chassis under load? Like when towing a caravan for real?

To hide the car from people approaching it from behind - less time to take pics etc?

I have absolutely no idea. :o

 just what i was thinking

Re the Merc - sequential turbos are clever aren't they and what's wrong with stupid mid-range acceleration and 0-60 in 5 ?

Watch this space for something to make the 535d 'a bit slow off the line' ;)

I'm just sayin' it takes lot more to get a diesel workin' to those performance figures, whereby somethin' like a 645i which is a normally aspirated petrol can do those figures easy.

Not only that, I think that with three turbos working in sequence, it totally does injustice to the whole purpose of diesel as the 'economic way to go'. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Car was def Petrol, thats what they put in it,

The tow bar is used when they test them, they have a solid tow bar & it pulls an A class loaded out with Electronics, We saw them testing testing some new 4x4 wagons ( YUCK!!!) & another Coupe, looks odd when you see then towing cars up & down the mountain
