Paul's Black mk1 Vrs

Featured Replies

So I've been on this forum for over a year now and thought it was about time I made a thread! Here goes.. I bought my first skoda (3rd car) over a year ago now and I was in love with it from the start much better than a stupidly low 1.2 corsa

I bought it back in September 2013 and paid £2600 for her, with 116k and a full skoda service history, two owner in the same family and a shed load of receipts I was very happy. Although there's was a few age related marks I planned on getting them sorted out, not before sending it to skoda to get the cambelt done tho at the nice cost of £400

As soon as this was done I enjoyed driving around for a month before getting the modding bug and that's when it quickly got out of hand and I can't seem to stop still to this day :D

I got it home cleaned and polished her straight away didnt come up too bad! I told all myself and all my friends it was staying standard till the new year.. Well

I looked straight into buying a fmic first and soon enough it arrived, got it fitted straight away. Wasn't quite happy as it wasn't centre but it was on lol

The modding bug bite again and I was scouting the forum for info and purchase a cg Motorsport clutch and one of xmans hybrids soon enough they were fitted and mapped in by faboka! Top bloke he gets my vote every time :) it ran about the 190 mark for a while until I got bored and wanted more power :D so I purchase a 150 hybrid with a bigger compressor and I was really happy with the results again mapped by faboka and said it was around 210bhp and it felt a lot better I was really happy with the was it was :) oh and upgraded for a airtec front mount :D

Also upgraded to some 312s excuse the wheels they have now been refurbed :)

I then picked up a set mk4 golf leathers for a bargin £90 drivers seat has a hole but much better than standards!

I then found a decent set of depos from Ryan on here and a whiteline rarb from

Softscoop, I'm was really please with both mods and fitted them straight away. The depos compared to standard are soo much better and look the part too!

My car stayed like it was for a while until I priced up a 1756 from Xman and really couldn't resist. A little help from the Kev and his mate found some welding on the housing I soon had it back and got it fitted! Again mapped by faboka and wow in one word the spool and pull compared to the hybrid is mental it's totally transformed the car. I'm over the moon with it

And that's how the car stands to date heres a few pictures of how she stands to date. Unfortunately the cars off the road for the moment due to a headgasket failure and is completey stripped and is having a top end rebuild whilst it's off so something to look forward to I guess. I will take pictures and keep uou updated

So a little update of what's been done today, after taking the head off I got round to cleaning the engine and the bay, seeing I might as well get in depth with it as I doubt I'll ever do this again :D I will continue the rest when it's ready to be put back together.

After this I got in touch with Hutchy and luckily for me Hutchy being the good helpful guy he is wrote me out a guide I followed to take everything off the head, i would genuinley be pretty lost with what to do without the help as I've never done anything like this before lol

After taking the camshaft out I soon realised that the cam bearings were a little worn and even worse one of the hydraulic tappets was worn and cracked! So whilst it's off its having new camshaft, bearing and tappets.

Then moved onto the injectors giving them a little clean getting the carbon off and for what it's worth replacing the seals too

After cleaning up all four i shortly focused on the head cleaning what I could and where I could get and then saw how disgusting the inlet was!

So gave that a little clean with a tooth brush (not one I use anymore :D)

With the inlet cleaner that what they were I flipped the head over and cleaned it up abit before I send it off to have new valves and seals put in, luckily I have new valves as seeing the pitting on my current valves I'm hoping it'll be a little better when it's back together :)

Whats cam wear like?

Thanks Kev :)

That was the worst one with the wear and the crack to top it off, the one next to it was worn but not bad enough to worry.

I do have a surprise :D I should have it this week hopefully tomorrow and will keep you updated :)

Lol, a surprise eh?!?! :)

Prob worth checking your oil pressure once its up and running, as the top end is the first place to suffer if its struggling.

Bearings didn't look like they had been starved of oil, the end bearing being the main load one was pretty much the only worn one, which you would expect for the mileage.

I'm doing an identical build with the same parts and I'm checking my oil pressure just for curiosity!

Just a little update, the postman was feeling generous today and delivered all the goodies I ordered, as you may have read further up I found I had a cracked tappet and worn bearings, I was debating just buying a new tappet and just putting it back together, but then thought what if it breaks in the future, whilst its out I may as well replace everything, so that's what I did :D unfortunately I can't get round to fitting atm as my head is off having new valves and seals put in.

I also bought new injector seal kits as they were looking worn so have fitted those tonight :)
