Digital speedometer kmh to mph

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

I've just got my new Yeti.

And on the digital display it's showing the speed in kilometres. I've tried every setting I can think of to change this.

Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Not alone no, but seeing as it takes a few seconds for the KPH to reappear I imagine you are certainly one of the minority.   As has been said many times before you do not LOSE anything with the cha

  • I don't need to 'remember' 50, 65, 80 kph etc as most trucks only have speedos in kph, BUT it's soooo much easier to glance at a digital display rather than looking at a needle on a dial.

  • Never mind all this intellectual discussion  , the fact that 30mph is between 20mpg and 40mph etc, but it's much easier for a lot of people to see 32mph in a split second glance rather than calculatin

Welcome,

You need someone with  VCDS to activate it.

There is a map of members with VCDS in my signature.

Welcome.

The exact details are in threads in the Fabia 2, Yeti & Octavia 2 forums. Have a search, print them out and find someone local with VCDS to make the changes for you.

It takes about 5 minutes.

It's easy to do without the VCDS too.

You can change the cars 'location' to Australia where they also use MPH, but from memory this may impact other systems and settings and it was not recommended.

If you feel the urge to change the cars location, it can be done by one of the settings in the Maxi-Dot display unit.

Have a fiddle, and I'm sure you'll fine it.

Think you need a VCDS to change Country, once changed Maxidot is your friend.

Can KPH/MPH be altered in maxi dot under unit's or quantities ? ( or something along those lines )

Can you elaborate on any of this as I have yet to come across any can where it can be enabled without VCDS.

What systems does it have an impact on?

(I must have enabled it on 30+ cars now)

No

You also need to go into the maxidot settings and change the units with both keys afterwards.

Which all the details are in the VCDS sub forum.

Nope, you need VCDS to change the settings to Australia.

It cannot be done with the Maxidot.

Can't find anything, maybe I was mistaken sorry.  :(

VCDS is needed to change the country to Australia or ROW.

Not possible with Maxidot alone.

All other settings are made with Maxidot and can be changed back with Maxidot.

I've changed several people's cars to show digital MPH and none have reported any oddities following the country change.

I appreciate everyone's input.

Thanks.

KB kindly activated my large mph display on my Octavia when he coded my Columbus last month and I can confirm it works perfectly and has not affected anything else!

Not even the Columbus?

Just a wild thought...

The large Digital display can be turned off by maxidot to show the small KPH display if needed

Haha, one day I'll get that ruddy volume scroll working but definitely not connected to your coding!

Don't forget to take both sets of keys along for any VCDS coding so that the maxidot can be set for both sets once VCDS configuring is done.

I've only scanned this thread, but I am not sure if anyone has pointed out 2 important facts before you go ahead and get this change done:

1. The km/h display is a legal requirement if you ever plan to drive your car in continental Europe. Not so much of an issue if you don't but bear this in mind...

2. Once you change the display to show MPH instead of KM/H you will lose a line of the maxidot display, meaning it will show less information.

I know of a few owners who changed the display, only to change it back because of point 2 - they would rather have KM/H than MPH and have the extra info displayed.

In any case, why would you want MPH displayed? There is a whopping big dial just above which shows the MPH speed....

1, The KPH can be displayed in a matter of seconds by unticking a box in the Maxidot Menu.

2, The KPH display on the dash is replaced by the Temp display  ( I think )

and I like the Large disply on the maxi dot as the 30 MPH is missing from my instrument  display as it goes up in 20's, i.e. 0, 20, 40, 60.........

and the large display is easier to see.

It's a 10 second job to tick the "alt speed display" in the maxidot settings which puts back the km/h. Also by disabling the km/h option the info such as temp actually drops down into the line where km/h is shown, so you don't lose anything.

You need to speed up a bit trundle

Once the mod has been done its easy to change back to Km/H by unticking a box in the Maxidot menu. As said in the many posts on this topic, the large digital speedo is so much easier to read at a glance than trying to see what the needle is pointing to, especially as 30 and 70 ain't on the dial. And with all these roadside speed displays you soon find 33 on the digital display = 30MPH whilst the analogue, due to paraliax error it could be reading anywhere between 25 and 35.

As above I have still got the external temp display, I think someone found that you can't display the instantaneous mpg display along with the large speedo, but that certainly didn't put me off as I never look at that as it pretty pointless, and you can scroll though to look at it if you really wanted.

I find it just as easy to look down at the display and know that if it is a 30 limit, then I shouldn't exceed 50kph, etc.
