Featured Replies

I think by the time I hade peered down at that small display and worked out if it was below 48.28kph , I would have crashed into something. :)

  • Not alone no, but seeing as it takes a few seconds for the KPH to reappear I imagine you are certainly one of the minority.   As has been said many times before you do not LOSE anything with the cha

  • I don't need to 'remember' 50, 65, 80 kph etc as most trucks only have speedos in kph, BUT it's soooo much easier to glance at a digital display rather than looking at a needle on a dial.

  • Never mind all this intellectual discussion  , the fact that 30mph is between 20mpg and 40mph etc, but it's much easier for a lot of people to see 32mph in a split second glance rather than calculatin

What I find strange is that the speedo only has mph markings, previous cars have had markings for kph, therfore as I'm planning a journey across Europe next summer will need to rely on the maxi dot display for speed or my GPS display. What I still find strange is the way we mix metric and imperial units, fuel is purchased in litres but distance and speed is still mph.

It used to be even stranger travelling to the Irish Republic where speed limits used to be in either KMH or MPH, you would see a mixture are you drove around. Your would see a sign that said 50 and had no idea if it was MPH or KMH. They have now switched to be all KMH, but it was very confusing driving there before the change.

Fish Hill near Broadway Worcs has speed signs in kph

I travel to mainland Europe quite often and find the maxi dot kph reading really usefull.

I think It may only to the Yeti, my Roomster had a speedo with dual markings and loan cars I have had have been similar.

30MPH was clearly discernible.

Not just the Yeti, the facelift MK2 Octavia, the new MK3 Octavia and all MK2 Superbs have no KMH markings on the speedo and have the separate KMH display.

The same speedo unit is fitted in the Tiguan, and I suspect other VAG cars.

At one stage there was a rumour that someone ordered them without specifying the both markings and they couldn't send them back, but I suspect that isn't true.

Other manus are also going the same way. My last car was a Merc and that also only had MPH on the dial with a digital KPH.

We didn't find it a problem reading the Maxidot KPH on the Dubrovnik Road Trip - font size is the same as the MPH on the speedo (which I personally don't have an issue with) and it doesn't take long to get used to look at the KPH when motoring abroad.

Let's be honest, if the only niggle people can find is the KPH read-out then it proves that the Yeti is bloody good.

I find it really useful, and often use it more than the speedo on long trips.

EG I have calibrated the reading from my sat nav, so even when I am not using the TomTom, I know that an indicated 119km/hr is actually an exact 70mph (78 on speedo), and 86km/hr is an exact 50mph for the motorway av speed sections etc. Very useful for setting the cruise control so as not to get a ticket in average speed sections and controlled motorways.

Has anyone elso noticed how many cars zoom through average speed sections then brake and go past the cameras at the exact speed limit? I think a large section of the population lack the maths skills to understand what average actually means! Its no wonder so many speeding fines are handed out.

That is so true!  Makes me laugh every time I see it...

Can anyone who has made this change confirm whether the digital 'Oil temp' readout disappears or not?

Could you also clarify whether you had the car changed to 'Australia' or 'Rest of World'.

Thanks.

I think it keeps the oil temp. You need to make it an Aussie car.

Mine is Austalian, and still has oil temp.

KB, you changed mine to Au and it retains the oil temp!

Thanks.

I believe changing it to RoW (Rest of World) also gains the digital readout, but am not sure if that retains the oil temp or not.

I'm fairly sure that I read a thread on here quite a while ago that said the oil temp indicator depended on whether the car was set to fixed or variable servicing.

Mind you I might have been having  a senior moment. :S

Sounds a bit of a random one; but I wouldn't put it past Skoda!

Pretty sure this is correct. I think the oil temp is used to assess the oil quality. I think you can force it back on when set to fixed servicing.

TIBET I & II (pre FL CR170) were both on fixed servicing and had oil temp displayed on the Maxidot.

TIBET III (FL CR170) came set to variable servicing and had oil temp displayed on the Maxidot.

As TIBET III is on the free servicing deal, it is maintained to the fixed servicing schedule, so I asked Allams to change the Maxidot to fixed servicing at last week's first service. Hey presto, no oil temp now.

I had a look with VCDS and followed the instructions posted by others to regain oil temp indication but to no avail - still no oil temp.

Now where's Gizmo when you want him or one of the other VCDS gurus....?!
