Sunset privacy glass

Featured Replies

Hi all is the sunset privacy glass worth the money ?

It does look better than not having it but wish they have made it darker.

Thats a can of worms!

IMO yes it is it is far better than tints (had them as well ... nowhere near as good) they are not drug dealer dark but add a nice subtle tint and help keep the car cooler.

This has been covered a few times before so it's worth searching the forums.

IMHO yes it's worth the money as it makes it a bit more difficult to see stuff left in the back, especially in the estate, and it keeps the heat down massively if you park with the sun facing the back rather than the front of the car.

This is my car with it.  Remember the front is actually fairly tinted as well.

I always here people say it keeps the car cooler but has anyone actually measured this? I have sunset glass an when it's been parked in the sun it's still hot as ****!

Not measured it and didn't really notice it much up here in sunny scotland but I found depending on which was a parked in the Isle of Wight made a huge difference over an hour or more.  If the sun was going through the front of the car it was much hotter than the back with the tints.

One thing to note though is the vRS might be about the best case scenario as inside it's black on black on black.  If you had a white interior it may not be as noticeable or even may have an opposite effect.

A quick google seems to show this as a bit of a hot issue .  :D  Sorry.  Anyways I got mine for privacy - it's more difficult to see if I've forgotten to pull the cover over the back or left my jacket on the back seat, the only thing is I think it does exacerbate my back seat car sickness as it's more difficult to see out in a car that's already bad because of the front seats.

I went for it, only extra i did get.  Its not very costly, darker might be nicer in some ways, but would start to reduce visibility through rear windows at night time.  It seems a reasonable compromise but like any compromise, others will have a different preference

Thanks for the replies Im going to have the privacy glass.

Smart move. :)

Agree with Mence, here is a pic of mine which I got on Friday. It's not too dark but better than I though based on what other people had said in other threads.

It's personal taste but I have just ordered dealer fit tints in addition to Sunset (standard on Black Edition) as Sunset is not dark enough.

How much is the sunset glass - £140?

I am getting mine done tomorrow for £160 by a local tinting place (Moray Tints - highly recommended!) as when I saw the sunset glass in the showroom it wasn't dark enough.

At the end of the day it is down to personal preference. I am getting mine done to keep the car cooler for the dog and also becuase I think it will look the dogs b******* on my Metal Grey estate with black pack! :)

Thinking out loud though.....if they come as factory fit then insurance will not need to be changed as it is standard fit however if being done aftermarket then it should be declared and a likely increase in your premium occurs...how does having it fitted at the factory or by an aftermarket company affect whther your premium should be increased?

The usual way the question is phrased from insurers is - "Has the vehicle been modified from the manufacturers standard specification?"  So, you could read into this that, even if it's a factory fitted option, it is not the manufacturers standard specification and should be disclosed.

Typically, most insurers would not be concerned by modifications such as window tints by either the factory or as an aftermarket addition but, as a general rule of thumb for most things, I always say "If you have to ask the question whether you should disclose anything, generally the answer is...yes!"  That way you're covered either way I guess.

Does Sunset Glass really lesson visibility at night? I'm thinking of buying a Citigo Black Edition...

Really dark tints will affect night visibility yes, any tint will a bit, it's why legal limits are at for visibility/ transparency of front windows.  However the factory fitted sunset glass is not dark enough to be a problem.

I've been running with 20% rear tints for the last 3 years and I can't honestly say that there has been one occasion that the darkness of the rear windows has affected my driving...others on the road at the same time as me may beg to differ but you know what I mean! I would reconsider if I didn't have rear parking sensors though.
