Yeti Rear Fog Lights

Featured Replies

Tony,

Can you get to the wiring from the rear removable section of the mirror body?

Hi Fred - Everything is prepared   and has been for some considerable time. BUT! I cannot for the life of me get the exterior mirror glass off  . Try as I may, it absolutely refuses to budge!  :wall:

I keep meaning to ask our dealership when I am in sometime, to take the mirror off for me. But I keep forgetting / or am far to busy to make a concerted effort. I did do a "How To" for the technical guides section but never posted it as I could not "prove it" due to not having installed it - Simple really, and anyone could do it, even me! If only I could get the blasted thing off without doing some damage!

Regards...........Tony

Thanks Tony

As far as I can tell it would be applicable to ALL VAG models so the potential is enormous (could be a nice sideline for you!).

Perhaps someone with Ekta could help with dismantling instructions. If it's available I'm sure TP would know.

Tony,

Good Morning Graham - Yes I believe so.

I think it is possible to follow the original wiring from the external mirror housing to inside near to the triangular plastic piece on the inside adjacent to the mirror position. Doing it this way avoids having to remove the door card and all the associated problems that would bring. My thoughts were to make the job extremely simple. One that could be done by almost anyone and the cost would probably be less than £1.

I really must revisit the project now that all the turmoil of the last three years is over. I will let you know if I get that blasted mirror off! It is all that is stopping me completing it, and I know there are a good few Briskoda members who have burnt out the heater on the mirror due to it being left on and it would be good to help if I can in some small way....................Tony

Thanks Tony

Good Morning Fred - Thank you for the suggestion but I already have the instruction courtesy of Tim (TP). I have had them for quite some time, but despite this, still the thing will not budge!

I will try again and promise to let you know if I succeed in getting it off, and complete the project.................................Tony

Hi Tony,

I will sit on my hands with fingers crossed and hope you are successful.

Bit uncomfortable that Fred, isn't it?

Maxidot has a box to tick( think its called travel mode), not on poverty spec Yetis though only those with HID lights.

According to the manual, when the lights are in 'travel mode' you lose the cleverness of the lights such as cornering function etc - they illuminate the kerb but stay fixed, no AFS.

you want afs, drop me a line , my initials  --  afs  -- i'll be along pleasantly! :notme:  :D

Back on the original topic - adding the second fog lamp bulb by simple wiring can overload the circuit or trigger the 'fault' condition, apparently.  I've seen lots of posts from owners wanting to put LED bulbs in various fittings but they don't draw enough current and also trigger the fault message - but for the opposite reason.

So if you wire in the second fog lamp but fit an LED bulb in both of them, would that restore the balance?

Very unlikely.

Normal load is 21w, 2 x LED's is likely to be about 1w, therefore computer will sense "no load" and bulb failure will be activated.

I looked it up - replacement LED bulbs for 21w are typically 2-5w each, so a pair would be 4-10w.  Still low enough to trigger the bulb failure logic, as Llanigraham said, but any additional resistor need only absorb about 10w at a guess.
