Ebuyer - yes or no?

Featured Replies

Anyone on here had any experience of ebuyer . co . uk? Have seen, er, variable reviews on ciao, epinions, etc. and usually would just look elsewhere. However, they claim to sell a 10x optical zoom digital camera for

I have used them a few times and had no bother.

Yeah they are good, but if I were you, i'd purchase a better camera if possible. Kenya is an amazing place and you would be most likely to take photos of wild life and scenery and it would be more worth it buying a better camera if possible. You say that the camera is

Ebuyer has been ok for me.

I would consider a decent camera for Kenya as you'll be devastated if the pictures don't come out. There are some pretty decent sub

EBuyer are good on price but don't rely on their delivery dates - I've paid for quick delivery twice and been let down both times.

Also out of about 10 orders they completely screwed one of them up - forgot to ship 200 quids worth of gear and refused to acknowledge their mistake. It took a month to get my money back.

I have bought loads of stuff from them for about 4 years and never had any problems, however I have also heard that some have had difficulties with wrong orders, poor support etc.

E buyer, ALWAYS buy any computer equipment from them, they are cheepest around, incl P&P.

Would reccomend. :)

Paste the link of the camera so we can check out the specification of the camera.

Have fun at Kenya!

This is the camera: Clicky

It's a clone of the Toshiba M700 apparently (reviewed here ), and even uses the same lens and firmware. I'm not too fussed about it only having 3-and-a-bit megapixels, as on the rare occasion that I print my photos, I never get them bigger than 10x8. The reviews of the camera itself on ebuyer are positive, but I had been taking them with a pinch of salt, because of the rep that ebuyer has on places like epinions etc. Having said that, the same camera retails for

Have to agree, i'd reccomend them straight off. All was cheap stuff compared to anywhere else. Never had a problem with any of the kit i've bought so have no idea on the returns procedures.

hmm the camera seems quite good. I don't know why it is so cheap tho

Hate to spoil the good feedback, my dealings (a lot at the beginning of the year) were very mixed, cheapest prices but I found the customer service very poor, no phone numbers (I think that has changed, now) sending wrong bits, knackered bits, the hassle I had returning the bits and getting replacements.

Once I finally got my computer built about 3 months in total, luckily its ok so had no contact with them.

Not very good - not sure if it is incompetence or deliberate fiddling. Saw cheap Ipod on the clearance section marked as secondhand. My son bought it and it confirmed stock allocated to him. Then next day they told him it was out of stock and tried to sell him more expensive alternative. He checked a couple of hours later and the same model (same number same description) was back again. So he phoned up and they put his order through again and assured him it was definately his. Guess what - next day no delivery and they told him it was out of stock again - tried to sell him a more expensive one again. In the meantime they had his money.

He told me so I looked and - yep - there it was again shown as available and in stock. So I bought it and they took my money. Next day - you've guessed it - out of stock!!!!!

If they have it sell it if they don't then they shouldn't advertise it - bear in mind this is one secondhand machine not a run of new ones.

In light of the above post regarding stock, I've seen the stock levels drop from 31 to 25 in the last two days, and I thought I'd better get my order in just in case. So I've gone for it, and should be able to pass on how I fared within the next week - here goes!

 imo.

I'd have always said no, but recently bought a Panasonic plasma TV from them and it was charged and shiped here in just over a day. Couldn't fault them.

Just pray you don't have to return anything to them!

No problems here. I've returned something, very easy to do, no problems and a thumbs up from here.

Dreadful bunch. If anything goes wrong you're utterly screwed; they don't publish a phone number and don't respond to their own "enote" system. After about a month I managed to get them to refund the next day delivery on an order that took them 2 weeks to deliver, and then they refunded it minus the VAT. Absolute scumbags who will never see another penny of my money. I'd rather deal with Trotter's Independent Trading.

I agree completely! I had terrible trouble when they supplied me with a

Here's a good example:

Just received this from them:

Order Dispatched (Order No:xxxxxxxx) 18/09/2005 08:33:pm GMT

The following items have been dispatched for delivery and should be with you on your chosen delivery date (Fri 16th Sep 2005)

...

So they can deliver two days in the past can they?? Clever. I will be calling tomorrow to claim back my next-day delivery charge. :thumbdwn:

I've had no trouble returning 2 or 3 different items with Ebuyer over the last 4+ years I've been buying from them, and I've even had them answer their enote system simply to ammend an incorrect product listing.

I guess it's horse for courses really, but you can't argue with the prices though

They have a phone number now, no more enotes. Enotes was daft really.

Rob, I got my latest purchase from them on thursday, it was my memory card and got the despatch email that night saying it was going to be delivered on friday. Oh well, worked in my favour i guess.

Well, the camera in question sold out over the weekend. There were 20-odd left when I placed my order, however. Nothing untoward showing up against my order, so we'll have to see whether their stock allocation is as accurate as they claim in their T&Cs (they reckon they'll no longer accept an order on stock that's run out).

Only other thing is that I had to have it delivered to my home address as it was my first order. I gather they use Royal Snail, so I'm not too worried, as I live quite close to the depot and so will just pop down Saturday morning. If it's a courier, I'm assuming they'll just leave the package with a neighbour, which I guess is OK as I don't reckon they'll be tempted to look inside.

In fact, that reminds me of the time that SWMBO and I ordered some DVDs of the kind that aren't available in the shops (and we're not talking TimeLife compilations, if you know what I mean!) They ended up being left with an unsuspecting elderly female neighbour - how we ever kept a straight face when we went over to pick up the package, I'll never know! :D

I found them to be worse than useless. They wouldn't accept my card (took them three days to tell me this) because it was registered to one office address and wanted the goods sent to the other office. Fair enough, that's security which is good, figured I'd just change the address. No chance - had to register an entirely new account and try the order again...this time with an address matching that of the card.

3 days later, it's been refused again.

Go to phone them up, but they don't have a number. Raise an e-note asking what the problem is. 16 days later, they tell me the card has been refused for security reasons as it doesn't match the address. I explain that it does. Another 4 days passes, and they tell me I need to speak to my card holder. I do. They say there's no problem, and confirm the addresses. I reply as such to e-buyer...they told me that they check the card holder address for security. Which is nice, but didn't actually help me, nor give the impression they'd read my e-note.

Best part of a month has passed and I hadn't been able to buy anything from them, so I ended up signing up with a trade account at another supplier. Which worked out cheaper, and I managed to get the goods in 3-5 days, *and* I have a phone number of someone I can call if there's any issues I need resolving quickly.

Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. Unless the tip had been sharpened.

Rob.

Used them a few times myself for low value items and haven't had a problem. Always gone for the cheapest delivery option 3 Days IIRC and they normally delivery in 2. Get them item dispatching email and equipment arrives next day. So  IMHO.

Bought a DVI Cable from them then a Freecom 100GB USB 2 Hard Drive for which they were over

I tried them once and waited and waited for my goods, in the end after many attempts to contact them on the phone I found out the item was not in stock. This was quite a while ago but I don't think I would use them again.

I prefer www.overclockers.co.uk and even www.scan.co.uk

To tell the truth you hear horror stories about most of them, but i've used overclockers since about 1999 and found them to be ok. They also have a buzzing forum. :)
