Octavia Estate 4wd or 2wd

Oh well, SWMBO is a A-Ha fan :)

I'll say her "my" 4x4 is an "officially approved" norwegian car :)

That you can do. In Norway, a high percentage of the cars sold is 4x4.

Excuse my ignorance here but is the 4x4 system '4motion' as in viscous coupling or is it permanent 4 wheel drive?

Imagine a 4x4 vrs running say 270bhp. That would be a piece of kit! :-)

Its permanent 4 wheel drive with a multiplate clutch between the front and rear diffs, with a bias of about 95% to the front during cruise on a flat road, which changes depending on throttle position, speed, inclination, wheel slip and lots of other factors.

Oh well, it is a definitely a "coupling" since it is quite difficult to part from it, once tried :D

A comparison of a 2wd Skoda Yeti with winter tyres against a 4wd Yeti

Shame they didn't compare with adding winter tyres to the 4x4 as well, in fact all these sorts of comparisons miss the point that it's still sensible to have winter tyres on a 4x4 setup

This is the video you want:

I'm confused ... on BorgWarner website the Haldex V is described as "an electronically controllable all-wheel drive coupling" system but on Skoda's brochures I keep seeing 4x4 instead of AWD ... what am I missing here? has the line between 4x4 and AWD blurred lately?

Their marketing department probably doesn't know the difference - '4x4' gets the point across to Joe Public I guess!

4x4 is Skoda's nomenclature for 4motion, quattro, & 4. Haldex Fifth generation is for MQB cars which in turn defines transverse engine layout. A different system is used for longitudinally placed engines. Google Torsen.
