LG G3 vs Sony Xperia Z3

Featured Replies

Coming up to upgrade time for me, wondered if anyone here had one of these devices and their thoughts? Will help me try and decide between the two!

I'm interested in the LG G3, after my disappointing experience with the Samsung S4, I hope someone has it.

ย

I think the only downside is the battery life, 9 hours!?! Wouldnt want to crash into a snowdrift with one as my only lifeline. Though keep the screen illuminated and you will be warm for a few hours!

Haha, that's why I am swaying towards the Sony, people getting two days from it and is also waterproof.

I like the Sony too, but that comes with its own problems. Such as only being able to connect to WiFi Certified routers, and the track record the Sony touchscreens have had in my ownership is terrible. I would have the HTC One M8 but its Fugly IMHO.

ย

The S5 is just a bigger S4 and probably has no reception just like the S4 and I am not having a Crapple because they are incompatible with everything unless you buy an apple this or an apple that.

ย

It seems there is no golden handset out there.

ย

Nokia are getting there again but the Windows Software.... well say no more.

ย

To me the LG looks best but you need a solar charger and a spare battery.

Ah I wasn't aware of the issues with Sony and wifi etc so that helps. I guess an LG and a spare battery then!

Wouldn't have an iPhone again!!

Wife's just moved from the iphone 5s to the Sony Experia Z3 Compact. It's far better than the iphone, does what you want instead of what apple want, and first battery charge lasted 5 days on Stamina mode.

hi

I have the LG G3 and it's a fine thing. I've never had a problem with battery life and never had to use my spare battery, but I really appreciate that I can just slap another battery in if I want to. I keep the spare in my wallet and swap them over every couple of months.

Let's be honest here, it's hard to go wrong with any of the flagship phones from most manufacturers and OS's. You decide on your own priorities and make the appropriate choice.

For me at this time I wanted Android, in the past I've had Apple and Windows, but for now I wanted Android, replaceable battery, micro sd card compatibility, decent screen, OK camera and for it to be quick.

There's so much choice out there and all with their own different pluses and minuses, the trick is to find the best set of features and compromises for you. But it would be really hard to make a bad choice if you stick to the flagship phones of the major manufacturers.

I've gone through 6 xperia z handsets, keep looking the batteries. Now I've downgraded to an M2, the camera isn't as good, it can be a little laggy, but otherwise is the same phone but totally reliable.

So do you get a spare battery with the G3?

OK camera

ย

only ok? its the only other thing i really use and i was looking at the g3 hoping the camera was better than just ok, z1 13 mp is awesome so i was hoping this would be too

G3 is a cracking phone.

G3 is a cracking phone.

ย

Can you back this statement up? What makes it cracking?

G3 is a cracking phone.

I've heard exactly the same, two of my colleagues have it and just think it's amazing. One of them wasย a right 'apple fan boy' but he says as a phone he prefers it hands down over the iphone, (don't want to derail this thread into an apple vs X thread - I'm just saying).

ย

From what I've heard battery life is fantasic, as is performance. The camera is good, the screens good.

ย

Seems to be quite a solid all rounder, rather than sacraficing something in order to have a better something else.

All round spec and price really.

Essentially the Nexus 5 is the same phone just without memory card and the bigger removable battery.

Every review I've seen has put it above the Samsung S5

Im due an upgrade too, so this thread makes an interesting read.

Been very happy with my S3 for the last two years, but want something else other than the S5.

Looked at the 6+ as I do prefer large screens/phablets, but dont fancy the high monthly bill.

Was following the HTC launch yesterday, hoping to see them bringing out the HTC One M8 Eye, but instead they announced the Desire instead :(

I may just go for the standard One M8, but will feel gutted if they brought out the eye version a few weeks later...

Guess I will hang on a bit longer

Keep hearing the eye has been canned or is Chinese only, then the next day the rumour mill starts again

Dual Sim is where it's at... if they ever do it.

G3 is not waterproof, or at least it has not been designed to be waterproof.

Still have to sacrifice something for something else :(

So do you get a spare battery with the G3?

No I picked one up seperately.

only ok? its the only other thing i really use and i was looking at the g3 hoping the camera was better than just ok, z1 13 mp is awesome so i was hoping this would be too

I didn't say the camera was only OK, I said that was all I required, all I wanted. It is in fact a very good camera with a REALLY quick autofocus.

I should probably explain more clearly. I was listing my requirements, not making a judgement on the G3. So I really wanted my choice of phone to have a replaceable battery, micro sd card slot, great screen, decent battery and quick performance. But i only needed the camera to be OK - it's not a big concern to me personally.

I find the swapable battery is much more important to me. I don' want to hear how good the power mamagement on a phone is when it gets down to the last 20% and it throttles everything back to eke out the power. If I am buying a top of the line flagship phone I want everything to be working when I want it. I want all my email synced, if I want the screen on bright I don't want to worry about running out of juice or finding a charging point. Batteries are cheap and light so I carry a spare - if I was flying to the US I might carry a couple for airports and plane etc.

But, back to the original point, as it happens the G3 has a very good camera with a very quick autofocus.

To put my comments into perspective I've had a Note 1, Note 2, Blackberry Z10, Nokia 1020, Note 3, LG G3 and a bunch of others in recent years. So even amongst a bunch of high end phones the G3 stands out as a very good thing.

It will not be the right phone for everyone - some folks will love the metal chassis of the HTC M8, different folks again will love the huge range of extras (Cases, batteries, car docks etc) for the Samsung S5 that are cheaply and readily available.

For me it came down to the S5 and G3.

But here's an admission - I really like my G3, but am really missing the stylus on the Note 3. The one I sold was unmarked and right now if I was offered it back as a trade I'd take it........

Sorry for the long post

I'm waiting for 02 to announce some prices for the new Moto X. What do people make of that phone? It seems to compare decently to a G3 or the Xperia but I don't see it mentioned here yet.ย

The lack of a replaceable battery is a little worrying but Motorola have a key-fob sized charger that claims to give a big boost to the battery power and should work with a lot of phones.ย

I currently have an Xperia Z.

ย

I will either go for a Z3 next or I've also been quite interested in the Oneplus one phone.
