QD/Drying Aid

Featured Replies

Currently finishing off diluted demon shine which I use as a drying aid.

Need some recommendations / advice of what to use next. My thoughts are either:

AutoSmart Tango

AutoSmart Wax Detail Spray

Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer

any further ideas/suggestions?

I would drop tango from the list, this is more a cleaner with dressing for door shuts etc

AS Wax I believe is versatile but haven't used it.

Too oldies but very very goodies are Valet Pro Citrus Bling and Meguiars Last Touch, can recommend both as proper straight up QD's that are good at everything.

Thanks Sparkly, I know Chris has used the wax detail spray so hopefully can help.

Another thought was maybe Mist-X, have you tried this as a drying aid Ste??

Hi Ben - interesting one mate...... i still use Meguiars Last Touch for now;

but slowly getting near the bottom of a 5L tub on this - so very interested in this topic.

As per the other thread..... i am using Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer;

but purely as a raw QD and i haven't diluted it as yet to verify how it may work as a drying aid.

Trying to think if i have a suitable container to send you a sample buddy.....hmmmm.

Not tried Mist-X in this regard either.... sorry mate; but that is a good shout!

As a drying aid..... doesn't seem great value for money - especially compared to Last Touch.

Yes - i was assuming it was dilutions you would be preparing - if used for a drying aid.

But even so - Mist-X at £12 for 500ml; versus Last Touch at £27 for 3.78L!!!

You can mix up a few dilutions on Last Touch as a Dedicated QD, Drying aid, Clay lube;

Extremely versatile and an absolute bargain as far as i'm concerned  :thumbup:

Im in that zone where rather than use something ive used before, I want to venture into a new product! Last Touch is great though I agree. Even thought about using ONR as a drying aid!

Fair enough matie.... let's see what the other guys come up with that tempts you...  :thumbup:

OK....The best drying aid Ive ever used is Bilt Hamber QD...can be diluted ...buts fairly expensive if used in the low dilution rates

Here is what BH say:

Adjust the strength of auto-QD to suit the task at hand, use neat for maximum gloss, protection and cleaning.

1:20 = drying aid and no rinse wash

1:10 = clay lube, no rinse wash and low gloss qd

1:5 = mid glossQD and wax application aid

1:2 = high gloss QD

1:1 = max gloss QD, waterless wash and plastic trim shine

Fold the provided micro-fibre cloth into four, lightly atomise auto-qd onto the surface to be treated and gently wipe the material across the surface. Use another dry microfibre cloth also folded into four to buff to a high shine - no need to wait for curing.

As for QD I really rate FK #425.

Never, ever used a drying aid, not sure what I would benefit from it to be honest.

Pretty good point :thumbup:

I do also tend to dry with a good quality drying towel then QD after. :D

Thanks & agreed. To be honest I don't QD after every wash anyway. Suppose a drying aid works for people who have hard water & get spotting marks.

As a drying aid...dont forget it also refreshes your LSP so even in soft water areas where spotting isnt a problem, it will be effective

Unfortunately I live in a hard water area and couple that with a black car it can become a nightmare! Thank you for all the suggestions.

Youre welcome

Thanks for the input Chris but a detail spray afterwards refreshes LSP, typically better than a watered down drying aid.

The normal quoted use of a drying aid is to lubricate the drying material to prevent inflicting any swirling during the drying phase, for me a quality drying towel avoids the issue by being soft enough to be gentle.  Yes it will prevent water spotting but so does drying the car thoroughly and then going round with a QD.

Seems like splitting hairs really.  It's more a comment on process rather than function and people's terminology comes into it also, I have plenty of friends who detail that will dry a car 85% with the main towel and then go around with the QD to finish off.  Sits squarely between QD and drying aid use but makes sense to me as a process and it's more economical.

Yes splitting hairs really Mark

If I'm in a hurry then I will use it wet

If not..dry

The best one I ever used as a pure drying aid was Sjarnagloss hyper header from Shinearama

It was applied with the snow foam lance after the rinse and left a lovely slick finish after drying

Unfortunately it can't be bought any more

I bought the very last one and gave it to Alan...it was his favourite too

That will be difficult me thinks lol :D

I've used rapid revenge by autobrite as a drying aid before and found it worked quite well.

I also used it neat which was probably a bit overkill for a drying aid.

It is getting diluted..so no problem
