flexible brake hose

Featured Replies

Car just failed mot   the reason was  front flexi's brake hose's  are chaffed,  can I change them  without taking off the callipers?  thanks  John

Yes, but the bit to be careful of is where the flex hose attaches to the hard brake pipe, make sure you use a proper flare nut spanner on the brake pipe end fitting or it will round off, quite often the end of the pipe twists off too when they have been on there for years without being touched. Also make sure you are familiar with th procedure for bleeding it after the new flex line is fitted.

The brake flex hose is attached to the body if the car with a n shaped spring clip which engages with the collar on the end of The hose, make sure you do up the end that goes into the caliper first before attaching the end at the body.

This shows the rear axle beam, but the way the front flex hoses attach to th body is the same, the collared end pushes through the circular hole in the square bracket, then the silver clip locks it in place.

Theres 2 different types of front brake flex hose depending on which calipers it has fitted.. The fitting at the caliper end is different on each type

This is the most common type, for cars with Lucas calipers... Make sure this end is screwed in tight into the caliper before you attach the other end to he body of the car. The unthreaded portion sticks out of the caliper.
