EE Signal box

Featured Replies

I got sent a signal box by EE as the signal here isn't great. I've powered it on, connected it to my router, and it's just flashing red. According to the manual this means it's not getting a signal from the router.

EE have activated it three times now, over the last week but it's still not working. They asked me to check with Talktalk if there was any way they could be blocking the signal. TT claim that they don't block ANY ports, so I'm now back to square one. :wall:

Anyone have any other ideas what might be wrong?

I have tried different network cables, and different ports on the router. I have reset the router and the signal box multiple times.

Bit of a stab in the dark here... do you have/need upnp enabled on your tt router for the ee box to work?

Other than that could be the router firewall blocking required ports?

It could be, I have absolutely no idea, and neither does EE.

Can you see the NAT table on your router?  Check to see if the EE box gets a local IP address and what ports it is connecting through.

My Vodafone SureSignal box just requires one port (can't remember what off hand)

Update: Since the OP I've moved house and changed ISP.

I called EE the day after I got my phone line installed, they sent activation codes to it (which they had done before) and it was working by the next morning.

Conclusion: TalkTalk DO block ports and don't know what they're talking about.

However, since the weekend it's dropped out and I can't get it back up and working again.

That's a shame as we recently got one (had to do a bit of foot stamping) all up and working brilliantly within the hour.

Before, there was insufficient signal to even reliably send/receive texts.  EE denied we had a problem, and reiterated they did not guarantee a signal.  This is despite having a business account and guaranteed service.  All this conversation was at engineer level in the UK.  A very dour, depressing and unhelpful experience.

An email to the CEO resulted in a reply from a nice lady, and an offer of the signal box.  Promptly sent and activated.

These boxes can be a bit unreliable. If your router reboots or its external IP address changes then the signal booster drops offline.

My mum has one on three and it needs to be restarted every few days to get the lights back to green again.

It might be worth checking that the SIM card is inserted correctly, try taking it out and putting it back in (yes the signal booster has a SIM card as well).

If the box has a sim card, it's hidden well away inside the case.

It's surprising how much stuff I couldn't get working when I was on TalkTalk that works perfectly now I've moved. I can see my Plex collection outside my home network for the first time now.

I see TT are blocking porn now, even if you didnt set it to previously; even the Chinese government let you access a bit of porn!!!!!
