Check your pollen filter!

Featured Replies

My A/C doesn't smell at all when it is on. But when it has been on for a little while and I turn it off, damn it smells like the bins outside my local McDonalds. Its really odd, but it seems like an intermittent problem, this only happens when its really hot outside.

Very gross. Anyway I tried the Comma spray with the same method as JUT, and this didn't solve the problem. It did make the A/C smell like Lemons when it is on, but it still smells like bins once you turn it off.

If you don't turn the A/C on in a journey, there is no smell. Its all a bit strange.

There are two different sorts availalbe.

A paper element for pollen filtration

A paper and carbon element for pollen and odours

And looking at the posted pic Jason has replaced a paper and carbon element with a paper one. I did the same on the Ibiza.

They looked the same to be honest (apart from one was black, one was white :D) - I just asked for a pollen filter - Never looked that closely.

Yeah the black is the carbon.

Ah, but the only reason mine was black was due to gunk & crud. :D It was sort of "white" when I bended it in half to expose the innards. :o

just changed my pollen filter, mine was full of cr@p too

i hoovered mine yesterday! came out quite clean:)

tight fist!! lol

Where is it, behind the glove box?

Set the aircon to cold, recirculate, and full power, opened all the vents and put the can on the floor in the rear footwell as directed. Activated it, shut the car, left it going for about 15 mins. Pretty sure I set it to come out of the vents only rather than screen and vents. I think the problem is that particularly with the summer we've had I've been using the aircon pretty much non-stop on frosty mode and have probably gammied it up a bit :(

Right. Its pretty much pointless doing an AC treatment with the pollen filter in place. On most cars when you switch to recirculate the pollen filter is taken out of the equation. But ont he Fabia as its in the heater box not the intake it needs to be removed.

The best way to do it on the Fabia is remove the pollen filter and sit the can under the empty slot. Fire it up into the heater box, that will get them nasty niffs and germs.

Cheers Ross. Is it behind the glovebox then?

cleaned mine today.. filthy!

Its behind the footwell vent below the glove box.

Jut,

Just under the glovebox, No trims to remove just an oblong cover with two sliders that slide into the middle to remove.

Will have to have a butchers, cheers mate

Just had a look at mine - big pile of leaves in my footwell when I pulled it out! Hoovered it out and sprayed it with dettol bacteria killing room spray, dried it with a hair drier and sprayed a load of the dettol spray into the vent it came out from, then ran it as before to circulate, then put it all back together... will see what it smells like tomorrow...
