Instrument Cluster Upgrade (Maxi Dot), some questions

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

I decided to upgrade my instrument cluster, with one that has Maxi Dot Display. Car is a pre-FL Octavia mk2 VRS (June 2008), 2.0T petrol (BWA engine).

I found one (1Z0920841C), in Poland, but can someone advice what I will need, besides the culster itself? What should I ask the seller to provide? Is it a straightforward swap ? (it will be done in Skoda local dealer). Does the seller need to "clear" or "zero initiallize" the cluster? what about the immob or keys I have?

Will it work with my current config and what should I expect to actually see in the Maxi Dot (I have retrofitted RNS510 and bluetooth 5K0035730F)? Navi directions, cellular signal?

Below, in this thread, I have posted a VCDS readout, with my modules etc, so can someone a little more experienced offer some advice? Should I also change other parts, like can bus controller, or...???

Price I got for the 1Z0920841C is a bit expensive, so dont want to make any mistakes.

thanks for reading this and for any insight

The cluster is easy for a dealer to swap, they just follow the guided diagnostics on their VAS tool. They'll need both your keys when the cluster is swapped as the immo is in the cluster.

The cluster you've linked to is KMH, being in Greece I assume thats correct. The seller does not need to do anything to the cluster, however be aware that if the cluster is used and has a recorded mileage then this cannot be altered easily.

thank you for the answer mannyo

The cluster is used, but has 72k kmh, while mine has 73k kmh, so I am lucky ;-)

So, the 1Z0920841C part number should be ok, I will contact the seller to get more info and also contact the dealer to verify that they can undertake the task. They should be, they retrofited RNS510, bluetooth and cruise control for me.

Thanks Mike, I also thought of the need of "zeroing or clearing" the previous owner info, thats why I asked. In my previous car, an Astra H 5D 1.6T, I put an OPC cluster, and the previous owner told me that he had "cleared" some settings from the donor car, so I thought thats the norm in swapping clusters ;-)

So, I will inquire the seller, get it in official writting that the cluster is zeroed and before buying, I will check with my Skoda dealer. Thank god, there are plenty of Skoda Dealers in Athens, will surely get one willing to try.

Waiting for so long to see one available in skodateile, but no luck...... From what I heard, those guys have their units ready as new, or new... ?

(any other source/lead for new clusers, please feel free to let me know)

I got my cluster from Skodateile, and they were new units, never before fitted to a car. So it was an easier job to simply program to the car. Even so, because the EEPROM still has to be rewritten, be aware that you will have a fault code showing when you scan with VCDS saying that the immobiliser is defective. Ignore it, it isn't.

This fault code is common when the clusters are changed. Both my Octavias have retrofit maxidot clusters, and both have the (false) immobiliser defective code.

Hi mike.

This is Vikky from INDIA. I was going through forums and found you have retrofitted maxidot clusters.

I am planning to buy a new maxidot cluster from skodateile for my Skoda Octavia FL 2011 2.0TDI DSG. Problem is seller does not have a non VRS cluster. He has VRS maxidot cluster for TDI in stock.

Can it be fitted on a job VRS car.

Seller is saying he cannot procure any more non VRS maxidot clusters. Please advise.
