Disappearing speed cameras!

Featured Replies

I've had my Columbus for quite a while and did have v.9 maps with speed cameras working on there.

Now they are not. Although I can select them to be shown and they are listed as one of the POI types to display, but they don't show on the map.

I can't remember if they every worked after upgrading to 4120 firmware and installing the maps again.

Could there be an incompatibility between 4120 & v.9?

are they on the map disk or do you add them on an SD card

They went when I updated mine and I put new updated cameras on poi and fine now

They were originally installed with the map disc whenI had 4020 firmware. And work just fine.

Now I've got 4120, I used the same map disc to put the maps on, but no speed cameras.

I can't be certain that they ever worked with 4120 so suspect that the issue lies there somewhere.

Where did you get your camera POI's from? Mine were on the map disc.

john999boy  copied the disc then emailed the latest cameras on a pdf ,if you pm him he may send them to you  :nerd:

with the higher firmware you should use the SD card

For maps? Or firmware?

For maps? Or firmware?

for the POI

Thanks for clarifying. I'll look into it.

Seems odd that I can select which POI's I want displayed (including speed cams & dealers) but none show on the map!

I can do map discs with POI (speed cameras) preloaded into the data. :nerd:

But there is no longer a need, using the SD card you can update them in less than 2 minutes without ever needing to burn a disc.

I suspect the issue here is that the V9 disc does not have the POIs encoded in the correct format for later firmware.

Where would I look to get instructions (and a database file of speed camera POI's) in a suitable format for the SD card / Columbus?

I know that it's possible to update the POI by SD card. Yet still people ask me for maps with speed cameras embedded in them. I do it because people want it, not because it's something that's not needed for whatever reason.

On top of that, I can also add in any other POI which people need, such as different petrol stations (if only the franchises would provide their locations in list form rather than just allowing people to search via google maps etc.)

Thanks for clarifying. I'll look into it.

I've seen several cases of this

nothing shows up on the map

loaded up with SD card all worked ok

Updated my columbus a year or two ago and never got round to putting cameras on. .do you get a audible warning your approaching them? ?

No such luck! Just a visual on the screen.

I think I might downgrade to 4020 as all I'll lose is radio text (which is not very good) but then I'll gain all the POI's from the map disc I have.

If you do downgrade be aware you need to first enable SW downgrade from the system option in the secret menu. Otherwise it will fail at the first stage...
