Octavia delivery charges

Featured Replies

Got the lovely telephone call from the salesman to say my vRS Estate has arrived, been checked that all the options are on it, and will be ready on Wednesday evening.

Yipee!

Then came the interesting bit.

When do you want it delivered sir?

Delivered? We live in Bristol and the car is in Mansfield!

Any time this week will do me just fine!

Do I need to take the driver to the station for him to get home? I helpfully ask.

No, it will come down on a transporter and be delivered to your door with minimum mileage on it!

Wow!

Then I think to myself, I saw a line on the invoice for delivery.

I wonder if I can save a small wedge by picking up myself. (As it happens we were heading that way for a birthday party.)

No sir, that cost is for delivering it to our showroom.

Anybody else come across this phenomena?

Do I save on fuel and get the car detailed in Bristol with the minimum of motorway dirt on it or get the enjoyment of pressing the flesh and see it in it's natural surroundings?

I would pick it up myself, that would be a great first drive, use the delivery extra charge on fuel and have fun

Kudos on the new car, mine arrives in November, counting the days, hours and minutes myself. My Grandad father once had his car delivered from the supplying dealer in Scotland down to Kent, transported most of the way, driven a short distance, like you. It was a Cavaliar (gives you a idea of how long ago we are talking). It arrived with 600 pounds of damage, which the supplying dealer then disputed. This is obviously a rare occurrence, all I would say is if you have it delivered it, be sure to have a good and thorough walk round/ potentially-socially-awkward check of the car, so you can dispute any damage that concerns you up front. Probably telling you how to suck eggs now, so i'll stop. Enjoy your new car

Cortina63,

Unfortunately I do not get any money for collecting it myself. The money is only for the delivery to the Mansfield showroom.

So the delivery to Bristol is FREE! (I have not been told any other costs so far).

ExpatHotspur

Good point well made.

Will have the camera on it before it leaves the truck and straight after it leaves the truck.

Maybe from it's elevated position on the truck, I can check the suspension blocks have been removed.

It's standard industry practice to charge for delivery from the factory to the dealer.
