Octavia VRS DSG, What to look for and Servicing costs?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, first time posting on here.

I'm going to look at a few VRS DSG's this week, test drive them with a view to buying one of them.

I just wondered if anyone could provide me with some advice on what to look out for and possible questions to ask?

What are the typical servicing costs for these vehicles? Are Auto's more expensive than manual's?

I haven't owned a Skoda before.

Cheers.

Hi Glen,

Skoda have a national pricing policy, this should be the maximum you pay...

There are two servicing options depending on which set-up the car has been set to...

Minor / fixed - 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first. £139.

Major / variable - up to 20,000 miles or 24 months. The car monitors oil viscosity, journey times, numer of cold starts etc. and decides for itself when it wants a service. £259.

It is worth noting that the only difference between the two services is a fuel, pollen and air filter. These parts are only required to be changed at a set mileage which on the Octavia will be in excess of 60,000 miles so be wary if paying for a £259 service but only getting a £139 minor service (oil and oil filter only).

The DSG box has it's own oil supply and will need changing. The interval is around 60,000 miles but it is quite expensive.

The cambelt will need changing at a set mileage (varies by car but will be detailed in the service book in the glovebox, will be somewhere between 80,000 and 120,000 miles) or a set time, whichever is reached first. Skoda UK have a blanket 4 year interval.

Figure this in to the deal if it is due andhasn't been done. Again it is on Skoda's national pricing policy, £359, or £459 if you get the waterpump done at the same time (recommended)...

The DSG box oil needs changing every 40k miles (60,000 kms) with no time limit.

Just done the first one on mine myself. I did get a quote from Skoda dealer for £169 for this which seems the going rate... I knocked off £100 doing it myself!

Fuel consumption on the book figure is slightly worse for DSG but I have found that even going to a bigger, heavier car with more toys in I'm still doing the same/slightly better than a manual gearbox. I guess the DSG box gets the right gear all the time whereas the same in a manual takes more effort.
