So is Jenson keeping his job?

2010-2012 - outscores Hamilton

2013 -          outscores Perez

2014 -          outscores and outqualifies (10-9) Magnussen

Clearly he's too old and too slow  :notme:

  • There's something quite depressing about seeing very good drivers potentially out of a seat next year and Super Maldonado Kart having a contract.

So is Jenson keeping his job?

Doing do-nuts at the end of the race - does that tell us something? Was it a fair well?

Alonso gave a further indication that he will be joining McLaren by stating "... I will join a project that is not for next year only, is for a long-term relationship. I think it’s the project that will challenge Mercedes hopefully soon and this is why I make the decision."

In other news, Ferrari have yet another new team principal !

Be a crying shame (and sham) if that was Buttons last F1 race - he has outclassed Magnussen this season and got the best out of a mediochre car.

There is good synergy with a McLaren / Honda / Button partnership, Magnussen could be reserve / test driver for one or two years and get good experience with car development.

Ron has lost the plot if he doesn't sign Button up again. IMHO

Nice to see Ferrari imploding just as Vettel arrives :D

And meanwhile Vermillian Male Bovine's best strategy for getting competitive again still seems to be complaining about the present rules rather than chasing Renault for better engines.

Letting their seriously slower driver go is a good start.

When was the last time a multiple world champ got destroyed by a near rookie?

here's one - Lauda walked out of Brabham when Piquet started looking quick...

Although behind the complaining, Renault have brought in Mario Illien who knows a little about engine building.

Particularly, Mercedes engine-building...

great idea, no-one can judge the real pace if it's driven by a rookie.

I thought that CVT was illegal in F1? ;)

you DAFt idiot...

Just found out that Porsche have been given the green light to race with a 3rd WEC car at Le Mans 2015.

Wonder who'll be driving that

Well Mark has been talking to Jenson so who knows. I can't see why people are having a go that Mclaren maybe letting Jenson go. He's done more than most F1 drivers have. he's lasted 15 years and been paid well for it and in quite good cars, got a World Championship, driven for Mclaren and had good battles with Hamilton over the years. If it's his last race I'm not bothered and I bet really neither is he. He's achieved all he set out to. I'm all for developing the youngsters. I think Magnussen has done fine, given it's his first season and his team mate has been doing this for 15 years. I'm really not a fan of dumping rookies if they don't do well after a year. Bottas is on his second year and doing briliantly. Next year will be the test for him.

Button, will be a shame. if only as he couldn't have a clean final race. If that's the case!

Lets face it, if he really loved it, he'd go for a year on far lower subs, sacrifice cash for drives.

But one of his earlier comments was if he's not winning or in a position too, he's not up for it. Which is the talk of a seasoned professional in anything. The down slope is not a nice place, takes far more effort to motivate imho.

So the only stinker is the McLaren end of season decision engine, but that's not so new. I wonder if Button has something up his sleeve. It's more interesting than the last race though ;)

Youngsters; umm pie for lunch, for sure. I really like what Williams have setup with master and apprentice ;) I've no idea if/how much or any cross-over experience sharing/coaching.

Shame the last race double points thing was in a dry country. Could almost see LH and the others gag on the Rose water...

Porsche have lined up 3 of their factory GT drivers for it after a major testing program recently.

Nick Tandy, Freddy Mak, and Michael Christensen

That's a nice surprise and will open other F1 drivers eyes to racing outside the F1 bubble.

I still think it's laughable that fans think they can affect McLaren's decision on what drivers they pick. You have some on Twitter saying they'll stop supporting McLaren if Jenson goes etc. Talk about plastic fans! If teams listened to fans like that it would be like the inmates running the asylum. And that's never a good thing.

Oh rlly?

With the exception of Minardi (when they were still Minardi) I've always supported the driver(s) rather than the constructor.

As I said earlier, I've supported Mclaren for a good while but the way they're treating the drivers isnt particularly nice, yeah its a business blah blah blah, but the majority of the other teams can managed to tell their drivers if they have a job or not, rather than leave them high and dry with no chance to secure another drive. I'm starting to wish Button had tried to get Massa's seat last year, would have been a huge gamble at the time but look where he'd be now. Easy to say I now I know.

What? The Ferrari seat?  He'd be even worse off in that shed.

Unless you mean the Williams seat?  Don't you think the endless tug of war with BAR 10 years back might just have damaged his standing with Sir Frank?

Yeah same as Alonso and Ron (seemingly), things pass over time.

I do support drivers more than teams but Mclaren is a team I always want to do well, regardless who drives for them.

These days with so much driving talent about a driver has less pull then they used to. A team cares about the Constructors Championship first

Carlos Saniz JR got the TR seat
