I flagged someone down on Tuesday as the rear left cluster wasn't working, I offered to have a quick look and as it happened they hadn't reconnected the wiring when changing the bulbs :dull:

Not lights out as such..

But i followed somebody out of aldi carpark tonight who didnt have an lights on at all.

I caught up with them and flashed... Flashed... Flashed more... Flashed again

No joke, it took about a mile of flashing until they turned their lights on, and even then their was no acknowledgement or thankyou.

(Do people just not check their mirrors? Or have any peripheral vision? I was flashed for half a second once, n wondered what was up, checked everything etc etc)

I was peed off.

I even thought of hitting the back wing with my front wing and spinning him out, like in the movies..

Then i realised i might scratch my car. So i pulled over outside 'bargain booze' instead.

Rant over.

That was close...I thought the thread was going to be about condensation in mk2 Octys........

Where every second car seems to be driving about with only one headlight working, and half of those compensate with fog lights!

Seriously how hard is it to get a bulb?

Sorry rant over

The problem is not obtaining a bulb; it's fitting it.  On many modern cars it is necessary to remove bumper, or grill or bodywork or some combination of the three just to change a bulb.  A Renault garage quoted £40 + the cost of the bulb to change a headlamp bulb in my wife's 2010 Clio.

At least in my Octavia changing a headlamp bulb (or changing headlamp beam pattern to suit driving on the right) Is simple and only takes a couple of minutes.  But that is unusual with modern cars.

Really? Is it really that bad on even a clio?

Takes me about 2 minutes on the fabia. Simple as it gets tbh

What gets me is people with factory drls. They can see light at the front but nothing behind

Forget the Clio. On a mk2 megane you have to be a gynecologist to change a bulb.

Yhep, you need to lube yourself up real good on those, or have little Chinese woman's fingers, or if all else fails you can just take the bumper and wheel arch liner off.

On the awful Modus I once had, you had to removed the bumper assembly and the headlight unit to change the bulb. Horrible car.

I used to work for a Renault dealer.

From memory virtually every model required the front wheel off and either an arch liner or a hatch set into it to be removed to get at the bulb.

Based simply on the time it took, a half hours labour (£35) plus bulb cost was about right, but punters wouldn't believe it.

Halfords was just down the road, their " free bulb fitting" service excluded the Renaults

Blimey. I never knew that!

Literally just put my hand it, remove a rubber boot and remove the bulb on the fabia.

It really is 'simply clever' compared to Renault then.

Maybe i should be less annoyed by people that drive around with one headlight then. Theyre probably just waiting for an appointment at the dealers...

It's because they can't find halfords since it's moved location.

Guess I can let Renault drivers off then  ;)

A Fiesta pulled out of a side road in front of me the other night, no rear lights, so I flashed twice, still no rear lights. Then I could see his front lights were shining on the road in front of his car, so I flashed again and he put on the one rear fog light to compensate.

What's even more annoying is that on many modern cars these day's there is a huge amber warning light on the dash.

I pass a MkII Octavia every morning on the way to work with a dipped headlight out. I therefore know he know's about it, or at least know's there is something wrong with his car.

Two weeks now Monday to Friday I pass him. If it was me I'd be straight down to Halfords for a replacement bulb in my lunch hour on the day it blew.

I know...twas a jest......

Someone's started a thread on it every year. It normally follows 'my air con doesn't work' and comes before 'which winter tyres' with at least 1 'days 'til xxxxx' running at the same time

alas I noticed one of my tail lamps was out earlier.. must change that laters
