It's that time of year again............!

Front and rear light clusters that cannot be changed without tools at the roadside should fail type approval. Simple as that.

However, it doesn't help when idiots don't even put their lights on in the first place. I see so many in rain and mist with nothing on at all. That is why I would be in favour of a law that you had to have your lights on all the time, so there is no opportunity for morons to think its too early or light enough.

Reminds me of the time a car pulled out in front of me in the dark with no lights on,despite cars coming the other way flashing at them they still didnt put them on,i pulled alongside at the next junction, put my window down & pipped my horn......The lass driving the car put her window down & asked whats wrong....i told he she had no lights on....the reply was "My car turns its lights on itself"....i then said they must be faulty then, to which she replied"this isnt my car,its a hire car, dont all cars turn their lights on themselves?"...............God help us if people like this are driving on our roads.  :D  I once changed a headlight bulb on a 2009 renault clio, didnt need to remove anything but lost lots of skin off my knuckles in the process of changing the bulb.....

I carry spare bulbs with me in one of the rear panels in the estate part, they're in a container next to the litre of 'top up' oil, the tow rope and jump leads.

I did get some strange looks in the car park of a hotel I was staying at, when I pulled out the headlamp unit of the Octy to replace a bulb the other week.

It's because they can't find halfords since it's moved location.

Halfords - offering free bulb fitting, How I laughed as it took them 45 minutes to change a dip and a fog on a punto Mk2

I had to change a rear 'sidelight' on the Roomster yesterday.

Thankfully each side uses two W5W bulbs to create the distinctive 'parentheses' shaped rear lights so at least the N/S rear wasn't completely out

Annoys me too. Also people who have their main beam on constantly or just one light not adjusted correctly so its only main beam on one side  :swear:

I noticed one of my headlights went out yesterday. I changed it at the next opportunity. Everyone should be keeping a set of spare bulbs with them in the car.

It would really put me off buying a car if I couldn't do a simple thing like change a headlight bulb at the side of the road. That's just inviting people to drive with defective lights.

I've noticed a few people driving with side lights and fog lights on at 11pm on a clear night. I don't really understand it.

I see a Peugeot 306 every morning who had both headlights work, and insists on having his front fogs on. It can be bright sunshine, and I know he will have it on. The funny thing is, he only has one of the front fogs work, so he just looks stupid.

I cant understand the fog thing either!

A vauxhall insignia went past me the other day, at dinner time, on the brightest day we've had in a while.. With the fogs and main beam on.

Why? Lol.

Probably because they don't know how to use them?

Probably because they don't know how to use them?

Also because they probably have a headlight bulb out and not to attract any attention from police they use fogs so it looks symmetrical .

Police cars and vans with faulty lights annoy me greatly. Very common in Tayside. To busy obviously doing the Tesco run during shifts. Then the indicator stalk must also be inhibited.

IMHO a BIGGER irritant is people who don't indicate, how hard can it be to push a plastic trafficator???

In defence of modern cars, lightbulbs can be VERY difficult to reach.

If I have to change a foglight bulb in my Yeti, I have to remove the frond number

Maybe bird poo landed on his auto lights sensor... happened to a mate who then wondered why everone was flashing him as he had the stalk in full beam position...

Haa! Never heard of that one before!

Doesnt explain the fogs though ;)

Saw three cars with deficient lights last night during a 2 mile drive....

I was mortified at the beginning of the year when one of my headlight bulbs blew - didn't have a spare at the time - drove straight to Halfords on the way to work and picked one up then changed it in the car park.

At night I really struggle to drive with just one headlight.

I noticed a few people driving on the M4/M5 interchange with just sidelights on. It was about 6pm, most people with headlights on. It was a nightmare trying to spot a car with just sidelights on in your mirrors.

Just because they can see doesn't mean they can been seen.

Theres loads of em about!

I've just treated the bike to 4x h7 philips extreme visions. They came today so I'll fit em when i have a moment.

Its that time of year when decent headlights are needed again!

My number plate light bulb is out on the Clio but the previous owner bodged the connection which has now snapped.

I've had a few crackers with that car. Airbag service light if you tilt passenger seat forwards and when there was damp it used to cause the rear lights to flash in time with the indicator.

Thats more common than youd think.

Caused by a bad earth i think?

My old bosses 11 plate transit sport used to do it..

And then it progressed to flashing the fog lights too, which of course made the fog light symbol come up on the dash too.

Water ingress somewhere i think.
