New laptop

Featured Replies

I need a new PC to do work from home. I'm looking for some advice, I went I to PC world today and lost the will to live. They were vague and I didn't trust much of what they said.

It doesn't need to be the best as I will only really use it for the internet, viewing PDFs, connecting to work network and updating calendars and spreadsheets. It being portable could be of use for work but if a decent desktop PC is available I would use that at home and any work PC in the building.

I was advised to go for either an Amd 8 or intel i5 processor or above, as anything below will struggle with more than one task and it will help to future proof it against becoming useless very quickly.

I'm looking for someone to either recommend a specific laptop/PC or just guide me towards the right choice.

My budget is somewhere between £200-£400 including buying Microsoft 365 with outlook, spreadsheets etc

Any help is appreciated

To be fair, for your usage, I would just get the cheapest you can and perhaps spend a few quid on an extended warranty? I fail to see how you would need n A8 or i5 just to be able to multitask in the very basic things you want to do. PCWorld / Currys you can return it for a full refund if it doesn't suit you anyway lol.

An i3 would do the job. And the AMD equivilent.

Stuff PC World - know nothing, sell you stuff you don't want and no backup.

I have often used and am willing to recommend both eBuyer and Laptopsdirect.  Excellent choice and prices both.

I'd personally second the i5 advice.

There are plenty in your price range. Check out what deals are about on hotukdeals (don't forget topcashback or quidco as well) . I can vouch for Asus, Acer and HP family have at least 2 of each between all of us.

My HP with i5 processor, 500 gb drive was around £350 direct from HP and with topcashback on top of that as well.

17" is a good size for doing work stuff.

Excellent cheers for the speedy responses, I need to get one ordered up.

My instincts led me that way but it's good to get confirmation.

I will have a look at all the recommendations, especially the cash back websites.

Cheers gents

I would recommend a place called CCL Online over PC world any day!

If you are in the West Yorkshire area get yourself to the store the guys are brilliant and not once will they tell sell you guarantees etc.
