New Plates

Featured Replies

I am now in the process of getting a personal plate for my Rapid   Has an one else done this and how long does it take on average for documents to arrive in post?

Mine took around 7-10 days from DVLA direct. About the same when you transfer a reg between vehicles. I think they quote up to 2 weeks.

I was quoted 6-8 weeks    thought it seemed a long time.  It is a private seller via DVLA though

DVLA only sell plates direct, are you sure this is coming from the DVLA?, link below.

Any other site is not the DVLA.

I assume that it is a commercial seller of private plates and it has to go via the DVLA to be changed over to your car?

Yes it is not direct to DVLA but another company going through the DVLA

This one

platesforless.co.uk   via DVLA  as a preowned plate

Once you have the documents you will have to show them to whoever is making the plates up for you. I had to do that last year when I bought plates from the DLVC for my Yeti. I think that those documents will arrive before the log book.

I just looked at plates4less for a plate I was looking at, its actually more expensive to buy it from them than the DVLA by the time VAT and their fees are added on, the DVLA price is all inclusive including the £80 transfer fee.

DVLA, £250 inclusive of VAT and transfer fees

Plates4less, £270 for the same plate all inclusive.

I could not find the plate I wanted on the DVLA site.  the cost included document transfer and registration.  It wasnt an expensive or exclusive plate.   I was told I will receive the V5 once both parties have exchanged theirs.  I realise I have to take documents in to get plates made up also was told I need ny driving license too.  Total cost inc tansfer (plates made localy) and insurance document change is £300 but I just realised I will also have to tell my GAP insurance  Also Skoda assist.

31st Oct received email saying all details sent to DVLA

DVLA are quite quick at the moment. I sent the form to take my reg off vehicle and put it on retention, in preparation for the Skoda arriving, and a new log book and retention document were returned in 3 days.

I suppose it balances out the three months it took to get it off the last vehicle. They sent my forms back last time saying I needed to supply the V5 and tax disk. The thing was I had supplied them and they stapled them to the return letter asking for them to be sent in!
