Would you use a 2nd hand Intercooler?

Featured Replies

I've been looking to get an Intercooler from the Audi S3 for the Yeti to compliment existing and planned mods. I came across a 2009 model S3 being broken, the guy wants £150 for the Intercooler but what's the deal with these second hand parts?

Should I stick with buying new or are used ones ok to be used on a modified car with further work to do?

Apart from obvious damage do they degrade over time?

Thanks in advance :)

Depends why it has been removed in the first place,

It would certainly be worth giving it a thorough wash-out first, in case there is any oil or dirt inside, plus check for any damage on the fins.

I have heard of them being slightly pressurised to make sure they don't leak air.

Like if the cars turbo has gone I wouldn't touch it as it could have metal shards inside it.

The car is a rear end damage job so front end untouched. Apart from the damage to the rear the rest of the car looks in good order, obviously no service record unless its main dealer then i may be able to get a digital copy?

The more i think on it, the extra hundred quid for a new one is worth the peace of mind.
