Boot Won't Open With Release Handle

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I've just purchase a '55 plate Octavia Estate 4x4 and have been having some issues opening the  boot.

Initially it was fine. Then at times I found I couldn't open the boot with the release handle, only the remote.

Now it never opens via the release handle, only by holding the boot release button on the remote for 2 seconds.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Sami

The switch in the handle is probably broke, or the wiring is dodgy.

Cheers, I'll try to remove the handle and sort it out.

The release is not mechanical, under the rubber bit is a switch. With VCDS you can check if the switch operates before you start dismantling the car.

One of the measuring blocks in the convenience controller (I think) shows the status of the switch, so you can compare the switch and internal switch.

Read on another thread that WD40 on the locking mechanism in the boot resolved the issue for another user. Gave it a try and it seems to have worked!

Took a day or two to work its way through but there was immediate improvement.
