Clearing the net for now.

Hi Rigel

How about telling us something about the car?

I used to own one, so know how good they still are

Hello Chris.

Thank you picking me out.

Didn't like the idea of diesel propulsion initially, but totally converted. Good economy - 50 - 58 mpg making progress, 60ish @ 55mph following lorries!

Remember the torque at lowish RPM? 30 - 60 in third limits time exposed to danger on the overtake.

Very benign handling on wet corners. The car responds well to develop powered under-steer or lift-off to encourage

a touch of over-steer.

Headlights are effective, demisting using aircon is good, controls well laid out and seating position is comfortable.

All-round view is adequate, but the deep front pillars can hide a multitude of sins.  Head movement at junctions is a must to find the

inevitable 17 year old approaching at speed on an unlit, small target moped.

In general, the car gives the impression of being well put together and has a solid, reliable feel.

To begin a comparison with other vehicles driven or owned could perhaps be regarded as "shooting a line", so it is not going to happen.

Swinging things back your way, the Octavia VRS has not been sampled, so perhaps you might be able to offer a comparison to the Fabia.

The Citroen DS3 Sport is a totally unknown quantity, so guess which website is going to be hit after "Post" has been pressed?

That's all for now.

Take care Chris.

Michael.

Great first review Michael

I found that the addition of a Rear anti roll bar and a strut brace really sharpened the car up and made a massive difference over standard

My Octavia doesnt really need that...though one is available, due to the XDS electronic LSD being fitted as standard

Both great cars

Thank you for the compliment Chris.

Adding a rear anti-roll bar seems a good plan.

From a handling point of view, left foot braking (e.g. after leaving deep water) chops the throttle - not good.

The wipers. Operating the screen washer initiates automatic wipe sequence.

Just as the screen is clear, there is an extra single wipe that usually smears the screen!

Motorcyclists used to benefit from a single left indicator flash to acknowledge their initiation of an overtake.

That cannot happen now because the indicator continues to flash briefly even after the control arm has been cancelled.

The rear wiper operates automatically when the front wipers are on and reverse is selected.

Not good if the rear screen has frozen the wiper blade to the glass.

Perhaps you might recall these additional subtleties.

Climbing down off my box,

Michael.

All this can be reprogrammed with anyone with VCDS

The single extra wipe is called 'Tear Drop' wipe

Where are you?

Thank you for reminding me about the VAG-COM Diagnostic System.

Unfortunately my experiences with electrical systems in cars, boats and aeroplanes leaves much to be desired.

It is possibly better to live with the various subtleties as standard rather than inherit unexpected surprises.

Regards,

Michael.
