Xenon light issue

Featured Replies

Just had my car back following a repair in which the xenon lights had been disconnected (but not replaced) and refitted.

I noticed they weren't doing their dance on ignition so scanned with VCDS and got the attached errors which cleared and didn't return.

010 - Open or Short to Plus
01533 - Terminal 56 (High Beams)
            011 - Open Circuit - Intermittent

I then expected the dance to work but it didn't, so I took a look at basic settings, in which I have been unable to perform the adjustment as per here: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Skoda_Octavia_(1Z)_Headlight_Aim_Control_(Xenon)

I get the following log when trying the basic settings.  Have I missed something pls?

Thanks Chris, I had done already!!

Further information to this one, I have just discovered from the paperwork that one of the headlights was indeed replaced, part:

http://www.partsbase.org/parts/sko-1z2941018m/

which I think is the shell that the Xenons go into.  So I guess the disconnection and reconnection has caused the issue with the ignition being fired up without the light attached...

To follow up on this I am now getting an error on module 55 which won't clear:

01539 - Headlights Not Adjusted 005 - No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation

so it seems obvious I need to get the basic settings to run  (also seemingly confirmed by the RT wiki: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/01539)

I also checked measuring blocks and got the following readout for the sensor values if this helps at all.

20:07:04 Group 002: Sensor Values
  28.2 %  Front Sensor (G78) (actual)
  41.6 %  Rear Sensor (G76) (actual)
  34.9 %  Actuator Motor Activation
  0.02 s  Time Constant

Any help as to whether I'm missing some condition to be in place to get the basic settings to run would be welcome.

Thanks in advance
Adam

Some useful info in here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/244061-xenon-headlight-misalignment/ that rear sensor may be out of range. If it is the same sort as I had on my previous car (Audi A3 8P) if the car has been on a ramp the pivot arm for the sensor could be 180 degrees out, when lowered the arm can return either direction.

I had a similar issue with the A3 which I sorted by lifting the rear of the car and lowering it in stages on my jack making sure that the arm pivoted back the correct way.

I'm sure back when I had my issue VCDS would tell you what the acceptable range is for each sensor.

Thanks for this, I will take a proper read later.  It could be as simple as you say why I am getting the error and hopefully this might clear it I suspect.  However, I still don't understand why I can't perform basic settings in VCDS..

If the sensor is out of range then it won't allow you too, as the module is in an error condition.

Yes I've just realised that on re-reading things, thanks again this might be quite simple hopefully.

Well I got under the car this morning and discovered the issue is due to a broken arm connecting the sensor to the axle.  Sadly, looking on ETKA, it doesn't seem to be a separate part to the main sensor so I'm going to have to repair the arm or buy a whole new sensor.  Perhaps I can find a second hand sensor with the arm intact on ebay or at a scrappers.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi

I am looking for advise with regards the Xenon lights on my 1.2TSI Elegance.

Had the car for a few month now, but just noticed last week that my headlights were doing the "dancing routine" while I was driving.

I was concerned and "googled" this,  someone said this is part of their operation.

My dealer could not advise.

Any comments ?
