New Octavia Estate

Featured Replies

Picked up my new Octavia estate, 4x4 1.8 TSI, DSG yesterday.

Just thought I would write a post about that everything is working and no faults so far.

When reading forums, people tends to write about problems (of course), so just want to balance it out by writing about a great car.

Looking forward to drive it again already :)

In that case it will be in wet suite as it is raining and raining here in norway now.

Mine will be here within a month. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences :)

Just came in from another ride :)

Still very pleased.

There is one thing though. I have the Canton audio upgrade , but the sub speaker isn't doing that much. I have to turn it up to full to barley notice anything (sometimes can't hear the difference). When opening the boot I can hear it working, but not very much at full.

1) will it loosen up?

2) is it something wrong?

3) is it not any better?

They do loosen up, but make sure you are feeding it good quality audio in the first place - mp3 at 320kbps, FLAC or CD's.

You lucky, lucky Scandinavians. That model isn't available in the UK and is what I would really have preferred, having changed from a Mk1 of great longevity. Enjoy!

Given all my CDs away, but did ofcourse FLAC them first. I'll try that tomorrow and check the result.

Well. But you are aware what we have to pay for cars in Norway?

I'm sorry for you in that respect, but doubtless there are other advantages to living in Norway rather than UK - not for discussion here of course   Meanwhile, I hope you will be able to enjoy the car on good roads at some times during the year.

You are right. All over, we have nothing to complain about.

And you are right, lucky to have the 4x4 variant, which is excellent in snow (I had 4x4 on my Octavia 1.9 TDI 2006 model).

Really looking forward to snow and trying out the new haldex and XDS.

I also have the pano roof and heater, so a nice blend of summer and winter car :)

Here in Spain the VRS is cheaper than in Norway but we don't get much pay, one is lucky to reach 1000 euros a month nowadays, so it sort of balances out I guess.

By the way, Norway is amazing!

Yeah thats the difference between Norway and Spain, Norway as a country ain't skint oh, and they don't have three hour lunch breaks, not that I'm jealous or anything here in the ****-down with rain that is a UK autumn. LOL

VRS is out of the question for me in Norway. The taxes on cars are based on engine size and CO2. So big engines are expensive. So adding 4x4 doesn't bring up the prizes that much.

It is an Amundsen, so it won't play FLAC, but mp3 at 320kbps really helped. Now the sub is doing some work. Didn't realize that DAB has so low bit rate.

what's the fuel mileage you're getting? at what average speed?

  • Author

It is too new to give any good numbers. Haven't done any longer trips, only city and inter city driving. Yesterday I had 0,77 l/10km, and the average speed was around 40 km/h. That was in normal drive mode.

The car is only 4 days old.

Yep, some DAB is 64 or 128kbps - crap!

Congrats mate, but where are the pictures ?? Excellent choice btw, I am very happy with mine, only 12k km so far though.

If you don't show photos than you haven't bought one ! :))
