does a full exhaust make much difference to a cr vrs?

Featured Replies

As in sound and performance? Worth it or not?

I would guess a full exhaust with DPF removal would make more power but at what point do you draw a line at chasing power out of a Diesel engine? You may well find 5/10hp then want MORE & MORE.. then your talking crazy cash to get anywhere further

I have booked my car in for Shark Stage 1 next week hope I'm not Dissapointed.

You wont be mate. I have a shark stage 1.

Just an exhaust change (remove the DPF) will let the car rev better and give you a small boost in bhp. But combining a remap with a full exhaust system and you'll see a pretty decent increase in bhp.

For example (every individual car is different):

I've read a build thread where someone remapped their Golf mk6. Went from 172 bhp to 205 bhp. A year later they got a Milltek turbo back exhaust and another remap from the same company. Results on the rolling road were 222bhp. :-)

So if i was to fit an exhaust then id also have to fork out for another remap as well?

I always recommend carrying out a log of group 11 to check boost control. A CAT back won't have much effect on the boost but a down pipe/dpf removal might.

I've seen turbo back exhausts on pd130 not make much difference but then I've seen others were big boost spikes have appeared and general overboost throughout the rpm range.

Always do a before and after log to be sure/safe.

Mikejay - I have always wondered if it would make any difference to the sound / performance.  Keeps us posted.

I'm sure if you had the exhaust fitted at shark they would change your map to suit cheaper than having them done separately.

Just recently bought a vrs diesel and am looking in to have a nice note out off it. Is it as simple as getting a straight milltek exhaust

I put a Milltek Turbo back exhaust on my mk5 Golf GT TDi. Made just the right level of noise. Quite loud on full throttle, but no louder than standard on idle.

If you got the DPF removed you'd need to get the sensors coded out. This can be just a simple tweak to your existing remap (example Shark).

Or you could get the car remapped to suit/take advantage of the full exhaust.

I just had my DPF removed a few weeks ago and what a difference!

Im running a DNA stage 1 map.  The car is so much livier now and the throttle response is mental.

I would like to get exhaust but I dont think I could justify spending another £300 - £400 for an extra 5-10bhp.

Had a powerflow system on mine a while back. 1 box only and the noise is spot on, doesn't drone on the motorway, quiet enough under light load and sounds pretty good as far as 4 cylinder diesels are concerned. I've had a couple of PDs with various exhausts previously and the CR makes quite a nice noise

Mike search for darkside development's YouTube page. Listen to some of their CR's all I'm going to say is Mike likey.

No disrespect atkins lad but still struggle to hear the exhaust past the diesel clatter.
