Ideas for EPC light Reason

Recommended Posts

Got a UK X reg 1.4 MPi 16V Fabia and the EPC light has started to come on intermittently and the more stop/start driving in heavy traffic the more often it comes on.

So far done the following:

- Checked brake lights and all fine

- Read fault codes with generic OBD reader and nothing found

- Checked as many connections as possible as well as any vacuum pipe issues

- Checked fuses on top of battery

Car seems to run fine otherwise although occasionally the revs seem to dip when pulling away but there does also seem to be a small dead area at the start of the throttle pedal travel which may cause this.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Cheers

Change the brake light switch altogether if yours has more than two wires to it.

You really need VCDS to accurately diagnose the throttle pedal/body position sensors.

Brake light switch still likely to be faulty if all lights working fine?

I understand that but is it much more than on/off?

On certain models there are two switches in one housing, one is for the brake lights, the other is for the ECU, the one for the ECU puts the engine into a superlean EGR rich idle to improve urban MPG figures, if this is stuck or broken it will produce the symptoms you describe.

The Mpi is 8v so you don't have a 16v or you don't have an mpi! Hope you get the issue sorted out ok.

MPI simply stands for multipoint injection which the 16v also has, the earlier 8v engines only had single point injection.

Skoda used 'MPI' to distinguish between the 8 valve and the 16 valve engines, regardless of the fact that they both have multipoint injection. The 8 valve has 'MPI' on the tailgate badge as a model designation. The earlier 8 valve engines with single point injection were never fitted to the Fabia. The Felicia was the last model to have them.

Will get one ordered tomorrow but is this the type that has to be installed by pressing the pedal down and letting it come back up or installed with the pedal up?
