I agree with you, while it doesn't seem possible to predict when this kicks in, it certainly doesn't always seem to be when you are in "risky" situations, sometimes happening when you are driving straight, level, nothing near you. I worked in IT for close to 40 years in various roles, and I know how tricky it can be to locate some bugs, particularly with software involving modules from various sources. You would have hoped however that given the resources the VW group must have at their disposal they should have been able to provide a better solution, although look at the number of software "enhancements" your iPhone gets and you can see VW aren't alone!!
  2. My car is also an estate that came with towbar prep and to which I had a detachable towbar fitted earlier this year. I hadn't thought about there being an issue with muck being thrown up - I didn't realise there was an exposed hole left underneath - although any time I remove the cover from the towbar socket you can see it has collected dirt. If we ever get a dry day I'll have a look under the car. That looks like a neat solution Stuartie, we can maybe order a Chinese takeaway tonight so that I have the necessary plastic in stock!

I'm in Scotland too, a bit further south of you, in Fife, but I've been north a few times this year, including the Inverness area and, other than the usual dead zones on the likes of the A9, I've not had any issues with DAB reception. My car is an SEL estate, much the same age as yours, so the setup should be the same. My previous car was a Mercedes and I've been pleasantly surprised by how well DAB works in the Skoda in comparison to the Merc. Plenty other software issues with the Superb, but the DAB seems ok for me.

  5. I didn't judge that my routing of the cable was likely to have any impact on the operation of the airbag. For clarity, I did not end up with a "loose" cable. The cable was anchored at each end of the loop, allowing for safe articulation of the cable between the body and the door. Admittedly, running the cable internally along with other cables feeding in to the door might be visually preferable, but in my view the time involved was not worthwhile for the minor benefit, and the risk of damaging panels and fittings was not acceptable.
  6. I recently fitted one to my estate. I didn't take any pics but the installation was fairly straightforward. I was able to hide the cable to the rear camera by pressing it along the top of the windscreen, then into the join on the covering on the pillar. From there it was fairly easy to push the cable into the rubber around the doors. the cable run from front to rear is pretty much invisible. I then spent a while looking at how I could get the cable through to the rear door and eventually decided it wasn't worth the hassle so I ran the cable to the frame above the door and then made a loop to accommodate the movement of the door and fixed the camera to the door. Perfectionists might not be happy that you can see the loop of cable feeding down to the camera but to be honest I don't really notice it. The cable was a fair bit longer than I needed and I found the easiest way of dealing with that was to push the surplus behind the rear left side plastic panel. One tip would be to watch where you fit the camera. I fitted mine just after the car had been cleaned, then realised once the rear window had collected a covering of road muck that the camera wasn't looking through the area swept by the rear wiper! Moving it wasn't difficult but it would have been even easier of course if I'd thought of that in the first place. I used pretty much the same method to install the same type of dash cam in my wife's Ford Kuga, the only difficulty there being was that the car doesn't have a power socket above the rear view mirror, and getting the power to the camera proved to be a much more tricky job!
  7. Too late for the missing key, but an Apple air tag or similar might help in future? As for your other questions, it sounds reasonable to assume that the key was with your wife when she got back home, although I think it might technically be possible to start the car, get out, leave the engine running, then get back in without the key for some reason and drive off? Seems unlikely however. If the car is locked and the mirrors folded in, then I would assume the key must be in the house. Do you have the options set to unlock on approach and lock when walking away (with the key in your pocket)?

  9. My car does the opposite, when I start the car the radio comes on at a very low level, regardless of the level when it was switched off. Now that I’m used to it, it’s not a great problem. Just another “feature” of the car’s software!
  10. Had the same issue of the auto hold switching off. After raking around in the settings to find out how to switch it back on, I have now added the control to the top menu of the infotainment screen so that it is easier to find.

This works with the display that has the speedo dial on the right and the rev counter on the left - press the right hand scroller until it highlights the rev counter, then turn the scroller until you get a graphic that represents liquid being poured out and shows a number of miles. This, I believe, is the mileage left until the Adblue runs out. I agree with what you say about the "assist" systems on the MK4, far too sensitive. I bought the same model as you, also at a few months old, my first Skoda and I'm overall very happy with the car. I don't do much town driving and can get mid 60s mpg on some of my journeys. I had a Mercedes E class estate before this car and the Skoda compares very well to it. Virtually the same size, boot as big, although folding down the back seats leaves an annoying ridge that can make some loads awkward. The gear shift on the steering column is much the same as the Mercedes. I've had issues with the sat nav losing the place. The car was in for its first service a few weeks ago and they told me its a known issue awaiting a software fix.
  12. That’s interesting about CarPlay, I’ve had the same kind of issue and I would have thought it used the phone’s gps rather than the car, but it seems not. A couple of times when the car’s sat nav was playing up I switched to Google maps only to find it wasn’t working either.
  13. I've had the same issues, Dynamic Road Sign Assist Restricted, or message in yellow saying it is inoperative, and sat nav losing the place. I've got a photo exactly the same as yours, the sat nav showing me parked in the middle of the river a mile away from us instead of in our drive! I'm glad to say I've not had the ACC apply the brakes on a motorway. I'm impressed that you managed to get a photo of the error message, I've had my wife poised a few times to catch it but it disappears after a few seconds. The car is booked in for its first service in a couple of weeks and I've asked for these issues to be investigated.
  14. I'm pretty sure this has only happened when I've been towing. When I had the towbar fitted (the car didn't have the factory fitted towbar), the fitter told me that coding was not required. I've since read that this might not be entirely true, but rather that VAG have not, for whatever reason, released coding software. I've noticed when trying to reverse the car when towing that the emergency brake activates, I would think this is the kind of thing that might be deactivated by coding, along with things like the car's rear fog lights?
  15. I've got the same car, 2024 Estate, 2.0 diesel SEL. Just towed our caravan to Italy and back, and that Proactive Passenger Protection alarm has been an absolute pain in the back side! I've towed 2,500 miles and I still can't predict when it will happen. Hazards flash at double speed and you just about get strangled by the seat belts getting tightened! Some days it came on about 20 times, other days only once or twice, but you just can't seem to predict when it will activate . I also get side assist, front assist and exit system alarms, usually after towing for a couple of hours. I love the car otherwise, but this is making me think about changing it for something else.
