Wheel Nut Inserts

Featured Replies

OK - I'll admit this is pretty obsessive: I use Wheel Woollies to clean the alloys (treated with ArmorAll Wheel Protectant), but the recessed wheel nuts in my 17" Terons make it impossible to clean those recesses properly.  Does anybody have a sensible suggestion about filling them?  Padding out with blue-tac or covering with cling-film will not be classed as sensible.  I don't suppose there any after-market 'plug-ins'??

Not sure if this is what you mean, but on my Scirocco wheel nuts there are some plastic covers that prevent the wheel nuts to be covered in dirt. (Same on our Audi A3). Not sure about linking images or to other forums, so here's a link to a google search. It's the ones with the star-shaped centre. You should be able to get them from VW if they fit.

SWMBO has these on her Polo. They work well despite her total lack of any effort to keep the car clean.  I was also thinking of getting a set as the bolt recesses are a pig to keep clean even with a wheel cleaning brush

I wasn't aware that SKODA didn't fit them as standard. I'll see if the ones from the Scirocco fit and buy a set of those. Black caps on the anthracite Gemini should be fine.

My vRS has these fitted already, so I would expect they are fitted to the other models as well ??

I'm sure there is a small plastic tool in the boot to remove them.

(I will find out this weekend when I swap to my winters).

A small detailing brush will get into the small area (assuming I've understood the issue correctly).

They do, but they are the nut-shaped hexagonal ones so the brake dust still builds up around them.  I can usually get 90% of it out but the Scirocco covers should keep it all out to start with.

Cheers Smeghead. I'll try if the Scirocco ones fit the Skoda wheels. On my 18" Lugano (VW) white painted alloys they fit (that's what they came with) on my 17" Rial winter alloys they don't, they are a tad too wide. Since the winter ones are grey, brake dust isn't really a problem. It just doesn't look very good.

Having experienced the same problem, & also being a trifle obsessive, I use one of those battery operated Turbo Brushes from JML / Wilkos to clean the wheelnut areas- seems to work OK!

I asked my local VW Dealer for a Scirocco wheel-nut-recess-cap to try on my Terons, but it had a wider diameter and it wasn't significantly longer (or deeper) than the Skoda caps. We've just replaced our 1998 Polo with a newer model, which has similar caps to the Scirroco (with the star pattern cut-out), but the Polo nuts are not deeply recessed, so there is nowhere for brake dust to accumulate. I'll do some more googling of 'extended wheel nut covers' ... (how did I ever find time to go out to work?)
