Finally on The Boat

Featured Replies

I got my geek on and tracked the 'Salome' ship from Panama to New Caledonia to Auckland, then wharf CCTV to check on the unloading of the precious cargo. Now it's being trucked down to the South Island so looking end of week earliest as getting wheels sprayed black. Good thing is I've had a brand new Rapid to drive for the last month for my pain - good wee car......but not a vRS! Next stop for the ship is Brisbane so not long now for some of you.

We are at the dealer now. So far everything looks good. No reverse camera (built 2 weeks too early), but still good. One thing I noticed is that unlike every other 17" wheel, we have Pirellis instead of the Dunlops.

Congratulations. It will good to see another Unicorn on the Adelaide roads.

The reverse camera would have been a "nice to have" but the sensors and relatively good rear vision mean it is not a real essential.

Not sure what the consensus is on the Pirellis, my Dunlops have not been as bad as reported for ride, noise, handling or grip although being Adelaide I have not done enough wet weather driving to reveal their alleged 'Achilles heel'.

Looking forward to a good report on the car from you.

When I got mine last month it came with Bridgestone Potenzas.  Not sure why there are so many tyre variants out of the factory.  Happy with the Bridgestones so far.  I am glad I did not get the Continentals.  There have been some bad reviews on them.

Are you on 17s?

Are you on 17s?

Suspect it might be 19's if Potenzas. I have heard the 19" Potenzas have zero stock in Australia so a replacement might be an issue.

Funny the routes ships take. Mine went Belgium, England, South Africa and finally Perth.

My car took that same route.

I was thinking that the Potenzas would go on 18s or 19s since it's a performance tire (as I understand it).

One problem I have with the tire noise question is that my only recent comparison is my work truck (very noisy) and my Pulsar (bad alignment, so very noisy).  Compared to them, the O3 is a crypt.

A rusted blade on the road went straight in to the side wall of my Bridgestone  Potenza 18". It had only done 7000 kms. Tyre was not legally repairable. Fitted a new one this evening from JAX. Had to wait for a day for the tyre to arrive. They are not cheap!

I have conti cs2 on my 18s. They are great grip wise (especially in the wet) but get noisy when worn, and wear fast. I'll replace them with Michelin ps3 when they wear out.
