 On Tesday night on my home from Belfast to Bangor over an area called Craigantlet (think thats the spelling)' date=' i was stuck behind 4 cars and a tractor one of the cars over took once we can onto a clear striaght which is about 1/2mile long or so. None of the other cars indicated or went to go so decided that sitting at 15mph in a 60 i'd go as the road was clear so off i went passed the first two ok and then next at the last minute this white car puts on it's indictor and pulls straight into me no time to do anything, sending me off to the right next thing i know air bags are off i bump down only to get another large impact which turns out to be a parked car thankfully no one in it but fet quite bad for them.

To make matters worse once tryingto get things sorted with the police etc as to what happed my dad who had come up hears the other drive saying he could of killed me :finger::finger: , i could of killed him what about me according to a witness i was on two wheels at one stage and was looking good for going on my room plus if it had of been about 10 feet or so earlier i would pro of been picket out of a tree as it happened a forest lay by.

It's not looking good for the motor at the front passenger there is no steering drive etc, everything up to the suspension mount is basically touching the engine, 3rd, 5th and think 4th feel funny in the gear box, small crease in roof and a-pilar, passenger side doors are pushed up and out, o and also crease in rear passenger cill.

Will try to get photo's up but can't really see everything in the ones i have

Just to make things worse had just bought one of the new kenwood 10" 1000w subs and the lead i needed to get my tv back and working finally came in the next day.It was also due to go and get the boot sortedfor the sounds and to have the components etc fitted [/quote']

Oh dear, You do know it is illegal to overtake more than one vehicle at a time even if there is a tractor slowing everything up, so I am afraid you are the guilty party, Hope the Fuzz do not charge you too much and you are safe and not too badly injured

The fool who was behind the tractor was unfortunately in the right when he pulled out.

Maybe he should have checked first but that still puts you in the wrong for overtaking more than ONE vehicle at a time (Highway code)

Been there done that, lost the licence, Insurance did not cover the car due to my failure to comply with the Highway code, lost job, due to no licence, no car and a bill of

You get a lot of them in here Shifty.

You miserable f**ker :finger:

Ay,but understandably so by the sound of the

It is NOT illegal to overtake more than 1 car at a time. Where the hell did you get that crap from? :finger::finger:

Hope you get sorted soon Andy.

National, Get your facts right before you post :shakecan:

That sounds like a nightmare mate. It's one of those things we all think when we go to overtake more than one car. I also often think 'did I check my wing mirror before doing that' afterwards. The guy that hit you obviously didn't.

It will probably be difficult to apportion blame given the number of cars you were passing. A lesson for everyone but unfortunately at your expense.

At least you are in one piece. With the number of trees, stone walls and gates in Craigantlet you should count yourself lucky. I wasn't that long ago that Chef Robbie Millar lost it and was killed in his Aston heading into Craigantlet. A tree did it for him.

I'm as guilty as the next guy for pushing it at little on the back roads although I don't have the balls I used to have. Craigantlet is one place I now generally just sit in line for 3 reasons:-

1. Too many cops about

2. Too many near misses

3. Only have 80bhp

No concellation for you though. Hope it all works out and you can get the insurance to cover it.

Did not mean, to appear misserable or nasty

Checked before posting that everyone was OK, NO Injuries or DEED

Told it as it was

I do hope the Fuzz are not nasty

I knew he was OK as he said he was, and was out taking pictures putting them on the site and working on the PC

I also stated what my situation was and the outcome, been there done that

As for the law on overtaking, I have not time just now but I will sort out my court citation, and the procecution details, and post back (no I won't I will not be back in here)

As for the finger for telling it as it is Well says it all really

"Here is my spectacular accident, all ooh and aah but please do not tell me the truth"

I am new on Briskoda, I enjoyed the information given to me by fellow users

I will continue to enjoy my Skoda, but I will not be back in Briskoda now

Thanks for all those who helped me choose and maintain my Skoda in the recent past

Regards Jimbo

Not wishing to play devils advocate or anything but is the highway code not just that, a non enforceable code / guide. One of my best mates is a Sgt in the Nottingham police (traffic div) just mailed him to ask him about this one car overtake mullarkey :-)

Glad your not feeling to beat up now Andy, if it all get's sorted and goes the way it should do and your back on the road soon.

cheers

You obviously had a real ****ty time of it when it happened to you Jimbo but TBH you did rub it in a bit. It could have happened to any of us but Andy got the short straw this time and everybody has learned from his experience.

All except you that is because you've been there too, can sympthise and share the experience you had. That's all you had to do but unfortunately the way you did it was a bit insensitive. Easily done given your anger at what happened to you but you have come back and apologised.

There's no need to leave the forum as far as i'm concerned and i'd be disappointed if you did. Briskoda is the best brand based car enthusiast's site i've ever seen and this is largely due to the contribution of its members.

I'm glad you're ok Andy and nobody was injured.

I was in a crash in july in one of works wagons, but i still hurt!!!

4 of us had been given a job to do on one of the jets in the hangar at work. It's a 5min drive from our building so we jumped in the Ford Ranger 4x4. I was in the front passenger seat with two of the others in the back of the cab. We were travelling past the hangar at looking for a Ground Power Unit to be able to start the job. When we couldn't find one, the driver looped round to the left to go back the way we came and continue looking elsewhere.

Unfortunately he turned too tight, too quick. We were only doing 20-25mph but the block paving out the front of the hangar was damp, the back end lost grip for a moment then gripped again, but bit in hard and started to tip the thing up!!! Next thing i remeber is BANG, we're on the roof with broken glass flying everywhere!!!!

When everything stopped moving i undid my seatbelt dropped down and started to crawl through the window to get out. I had to crawl through the glass all over the floor. I stood up with the back of my head, my neck and the middle of my back really hurting. I started to walk towards the people now emerging from the hangar, looked back towards the wagon, totally lost my balance and nearly fell over!! One of the lads that came out of the hangar helped me over to a chair just inside the door of it.

5mins later the emergency services arrived. I was fitted with a neck brace and whisked off to the medical centre in the ambulance (nobody else had any serious injuries). Once i'd been checked out by a doctor i was given some co-codomol for the pain, some ibuprofen to reduce swelling and a leaflet on head injury advice. I was signed off work for 2days and taken back to my room in the barrack block!!!

3months on and my neck still hurts a bit, my back hurts if i twist round too quickly and the back of my head is still numb-ish!!!!

The ironic thing is, at the bottom of my pay slip this month theres an advert that reads, "BEEN INJURED ON DUTY BY SOMEONE ELSE? CALL 0870 ......."

Here's a piccy (what would we do without picture phones???).

Here's an amusing video reconstruction done by one of the lads at work

I hope all this get's sorted out soon for you mate, and you don't get f**ked over by the insurance companies!!!!!

lol, love that vid, great sound effects.

Sorry to hear about the crash dude, i know when i had mine i felt like ****, and took **** from work mates for a few months, the claim is STILL going through now, though the settlement for the car has been long gone.

claim is for passeneger injurys.

Best advice for dealing with insurance claims is phone them every single day!!!!!!

if not they will take their time!

cheers mate, just waiting now on the usual insurance stuff

Oh dear, You do know it is illegal to overtake more than one vehicle at a time

Completely and utterly wrong.

If you try and overtake multiple cars when it's not safe to do so then that can be an offence of dangerous driving or careless/inconsiderate driving but there is no specifc law that says you must only overtake one at a time , and how would that be defined? After all you do only overtake one car after the other and not two at the same time. To say that you should have to pull back in after each vehicle is nonense.

Right , I'm off out on my bike to overtake several cars in one go

Hey Andy, due to a certain poster, the red mist came down and his comments made me forget about your accident for a mo. Glad you are ok  I hope you have a speedy settlement and you don't get too inconvenienced.

Must have been some impact looking at the piccies

I still suffer from the whiplash injuries caused by a woman driving right up to my back seats in a cavalier 13 years ago, and at the time I was just a bit sore and stiff, so definately worth getting properly checked out by a specialist. Some compo would be useful too i'm sure, but I would be more bothered about your back, neck and shoulders.

@Tommy C, . Looking at the wreckage, I bet you are glad the vehicle wasn't doing any speed. That is one squashed roof.

@National - "here is my spectacular accident, all ooh ahh but please don't tell me the truth".....WTF? Are you naturally insensitive? Or have you been on a course? :finger:

@ Robbo 51, where did you get the gesticulating smiley? I need one......lol

Hey Shifty..loving your avatar man...

@Tommy C' date=' . Looking at the wreckage, I bet you are glad the vehicle wasn't doing any speed. That is one squashed roof.

Yeah i'm glad i was wearing a seatbelt too. The two guys sitting in the back weren't, neither was the driver!!!!!! I'd be a lot worse if i wasn't!!

Two things can be learned from this....

1. Don't buy a ford ranger (they're :shakecan: )

2. If you do, fit a roll cage!!!

Again Andy, i hope this all gets sorted out soon and you don't get left too much out of pocket!!

hm, some very heated posts in this forum eh?

Hope everyone who got injured is OK.

:blahblah: MIRROR, SIGNAL, MANOUVER!!!:blahblah:

If we all keep that in mind we will all be a lot safer no?:drivesaf:

I never would have sai this when i was younger but its only a car you'll get a new one or get it fixed. You wouldn't fix as easily and you certainly get a new one.

Its a bugger when it's not your fault i had a similar thing happen to me in my Nova SR an Astra pulled into the side of me nowhere near as much damge tho

Hi to All

There seems to be a bit of conjecture on the highway code here (overtaking two vehicles illegal or not, codes requirements law or not) so I thought a useful link was in order:

http://www.highwaycode.gov.uk/

How many of us have so much as picked a copy up since passing the driving test?

I know that double overtaking is illegal ie going on the right a vehicle that is already overtaking another, but overtaking a column of cars is a different issue. The smart thing to do is follow the IAM advice where a speed difference of around 15mph is used for the overtake. This way, you have a little time to respond if someone in front fails to miroor check and signal before overtaking.

Chris

Yep have to agree with chris gb, double ie 3 abrest is a definate no no but overtaking a line of vehicles is aceeptable but has to be done with real caution due to muppets just pulling out, remember it is perfectly acceptable to flash your lights when overtaking, also use as much of the road as possible to maximise the distance between you and what you overtaking.

The question of speed of overtake is a mute point......

Anyway Andy at least you ok and hope you back on the road soon.
