Sitrep On Fabia

Featured Replies

hi guys, i have been quite quiet on here for the past few week, and with the car bring off the road its been a chance to do a few upgrades such as:

1.) (my favourite upgrade so far) replace my radio to an iPad mini, with out the need for a headunit ( i have a guide if anyone wants to try this )

just choosing a mounting fixture and then this will be complete

2.) leather steering wheel cover ( i don't like the vrs wheel so stitched a cover onto my existing one ) not yet finished!

3.) interior light colour changed including the dash which didn't involve tampering with the existing smd's on my new speedo ( my original was blown up by me , trial and error i guess )

4.) rear control panel ( not yet finished, but will include a clock, and switches for the rear map lights)

more to come just fitting in projects roundly university work

one big issue i have with my fabia is the rear passenger side door has decided to seal itself shut and will not open at all, the lock pin will go up and down, i have dismantled door inside and check all the cables/connectors and still nothing, i took the handle and moved the wire a few notches as i read that can work and still nothing, after going back inside the door i cut my hand on the metal of the inner door and flipped ending up my rear rood is now completely dented and i will get around to replacing it soon just can't get it open to replace the door any one got any ideas?

Is the latch mechanism broken so the door will not release from the striker?

the lock makes noises but fails to release, its just like it has deadlocked

This happened on the Wife's Fabia. If you gave the quarter panal a good thump with the side of you fist where the stricker plate is and tried the handle at the same time it released the lock.  New lock under warranty and all was fine.

create my own LED circuitry using 5mm and 3mm LED's and wired them up to the illumination pins on the dash connector :)

works a treat

My Cordoba (same car, different dress) had a very similar problem with the rear door - would go for weeks between working fine and not working. Never did fix it before I sold it to my brother  :peek: but having had weird locking issues on my Fabia I'd inspect the loom to make sure nothing is shorting/rubbed through the insulation and then swap the lock, not much else in there to go wrong! (swapping the lock solved the issue I had on my Fabia - car would lock as soon as the door was shut and randomly re-lock its self if left unlocked even after opening another door).

That's a microswitch issue

i have noticed with it though and its been like it since i added remote locking, if i unlock the car and don't open on of the front doors the car will lock itself again is that normal if not how would i tackle it? even though i kinda like it

Normal, 30 second delay its a security feature but a PITA if you shut your keys in the boot or back

Yeah and it's even worse if the driver's door open microswitch fails because the car then locks itself even after opening the door.

Done that before, key in ignition but not turned then shut the door to get some stuff from the workshop and it locks

Haha, yes.

That's a microswitch issue

Swapping the passenger lock mech fixed all the issues... I too had it lock after the drivers door had been open, even with the door open some times!

I also bought a cheapo unbranded lock which never had a working microswitch, really annoyed me
